Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M 8511 Particulate Sanding Respirator N95 with Valve, 10-PackCustomer Review: Excellent protection and comfort for the price Summary: 5 Stars
At under $2 each, these are excellent masks for the price. I use them when doing work in my rock yard, such as blowing, vacuuming, and sifting dirt out of the rocks. Without breathing protection, dirt gets into my nose and lungs. I've used masks that don't have a breather valve before, but they get very hot and fog up my safety glasses. These stay surprisingly cool and don't fog up my glasses. I get several uses out of them, which equates to a few hours of work.
I have a slimmer head, and the straps have never felt tight to me. The first couple that I used were very comfortable. The third was a bit tight around one of the eyes, but I'm not sure why - perhaps I shaped the adjustable nose piece incorrectly. I mention it because other reviews have mentioned these being tight, which I experienced on one mask, but the others have worked out great.
The Home Depot near me sells these, which is where I originally bought some to try. If possible, you might want to buy a smaller pack locally like I did to check the fit for yourself before buying a bulk pack like this.
Customer Review: Best particle respirator for your money Summary: 5 Stars
During construction demolition it's important to protect your lungs from inhaling dust. I do a lot of demo and found the 3M 8511 Particle Sanding Respirator to be the best dust mask for the job. The straps remain firmly attached and the one way valve helps with exhalation and to keep glasses from fogging up. Once you pinch the metal nose clip you achieve a solid seal that keeps dust out. If you're working in extremely dusty conditions be sure to change masks once a day. Watch the Amazon site and pick up on deals of 3 or 4 10 packs of these masks. They are very affordable.
I've tried the Moldex - 2300 N95 Respirator and had about 20% of the straps snap off as I tried to pull it over my head for the first time. Don't waste your money with the Moldex respirators.
9-22-09 Just reordered another 30 masks that will make a total of 80. Still very satisfied and wouldn't order any other brand.
Customer Review: Good PRoduct Summary: 5 Stars
We have purchased several boxes of these for use in cleaning out an old house with questionable air quality. A biohazard company told us that this are the masks to use for the type of conditions we would be working in (they had been to the house so knew the air quality). We opted to do the job ourselves and these are easy to adjust with the small aluminum band on the inside to keep it close to your face. The trick to keeping your glasses from fogging up is to squeeze the clip enough to keep outside air from entering above your cheeks. Having it loose defeats the purpose of the mask anyway. Breathing was not difficult wearing these; you don't feel like you are restricted in getting enough air through them although that might be an individual thing but we have had 6 different people use them and no one has had a problem with them.
Customer Review: Comfortable, effective respirator Summary: 5 Stars
I use these mostly for woodworking, mainly while sanding, but also while sweeping or blowing out the garage. The valve is a big upgrade from the old valveless respirators as it provides a way to exhale without fogging your glasses. The fit is good. The respirator is easy to put on and take off; elastic bands keep it on tightly without being overly tight, at least on me; I have not had any problem getting a good fit or seal.
The part over the bridge of the nose does interfere with my glasses resting where they should, but I haven't yet found a respirator that doesn't.
These are highly recommended for dusty tasks like sanding, cleaning, etc.
Customer Review: Absolutely great dust mask Summary: 5 Stars
I love these masks. I use them when mowing the yards, vacuuming the carpet, and grinding metal on my bench grinder in the garage. They're also great when smoke is in the air ... neighbor's BBQ or So Cal brush fire. I find them to be OK on comfort for 2 hours or so, which is fine. My glasses fog when I'm more active as when mowing the yards. I don't mind readjusting mask/glasses to get rid of the fog. It's just so nice to breathe clean air. They go for about $3.50 each in the local home improvement stores.
Paid $15.71 for a 10 pack and shipping was free. Purchased on 11-15-2009 directly from Amazon.
