Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M 8511 Particulate Sanding Respirator N95 with Valve, 10-PackCustomer Review: Awesome but bit pricy Summary: 5 Stars
This is great thing I have ever wear a mask. You should use this mask all the time. That good.
Customer Review: Good Dust Mask But With One Issue Summary: 4 Stars
I recently bought a leaf blower/vacuum/mulcher, and planned to use the mulcher to reduce the number of bags of leaves I put out on the curb. The leaf mulcher, as could be expected, throws out a fair amount of leaf dust, so I bought this product, the "3M 8511 Particulate Sanding Respirator N95 with Valve, 10-Pack". Below are my pro's and con's:
Pros:
- Filters the air I breathe very well. In the past, I'd cough a lot when mowing over leaves with my lawn mower, and it doesn't put up nearly the amount of leaf dust as my new leaf blower/mulcher. I'm happy to say now that after repeated times mulching leaves with the leaf blower/mulcher while wearing this mask, I didn't cough once.
- Each mask is reuseable. I'm still using the first mask from the pack. While your mileage may vary depending on what you use it for, I've been using this all fall and it's still in good shape. I'll probably throw it out once I'm done with leaves for the year, and use another mask from the 10-pack next year.
- The exhalation valve works and helps keep you from fogging up your work glasses while wearing the mask.
Con:
- The elastic straps cannot be adjusted, and are very tight. While this ostensibly helps keep the mask snug to your face, I found that is too tight for easy comfort, and I wish there were a way to relax the strap's tightness.
Overall, its a good value and a good mask, but for me, its not as comfortable of a fit as I'd like.
Customer Review: Not good for H1N1, good for other things Summary: 4 Stars
We had these in case one of us got sick with H1N1 and we had to prevent the other one from getting sick. Well, I got the flu. We bought these because of the "easy to wear for long periods of time" claim. However, we didn't realize that the "valve" was actually a flap that opens when you exhale. Not exactly effective in preventing my germs from getting out in the open when I cough. I should have thought harder about what a "valve" meant, but I was just going off the comfortablility claims rather than what that actually meant. I believe they added the "Sanding" description sometime after I bought it last spring.
I could understand how they would work well in wood working, but in the virus area, get a traditional N95 without the valve.
Customer Review: well made Summary: 4 Stars
I would consider these masks of higher quality over the standards at the box stores. Strong but not tight straps and securely attached, many of the rubber band type straps break and or pull out of the staple on other lower quality masks.
Nice breathing feature reduces fog up with goggles and the mask is constructed of a nice soft material.
Very comfortable!
Only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because they're a little high in price.
Customer Review: SoCal wildfire protection Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this 10 pack to get ready for the next wildfire season in San Diego. The box got split up for my extended family to have ready. The smoke in the air is terrible during those few days a year when we are faced with burning all around us. It's good to know we have them ready at hand.
I love the ease of use, especially the nose piece that can be pressed to confirm to your face. It is very comfortable and hightly recommended.
