Cleans your soldering iron tips without water! Made from coils of brass, which is softer than the tip plating yet harder than the oxidation that forms on the tip. To clean the tip, simply plunge (stab) the iron tip into the coils. The ideal alternative to a wet sponge.

I spotted this and thought I'd give it a whirl since I'm often frustrated with short tip-life and poor thermal-coupling (increasing contact-time required to solder a component), despite my best efforts to keep tips shiny, clean and tinned with a tip cleaner/deoxidizer and wet sponge.

Since I got the Hakko wire, I do not *touch* wet sponges any longer (a lot of the build-up actually seems to come from the sponges themselves when they begin to deteriorate). This stuff works like a charm, and the tips come out shiny, clean, and with a perfect mirco-thin tinning. I use the cake-type tip cleaner/deoxidizer 100 times less frequently when I'm soldering now. I could not recommend this product more highly for hobby-work building small to medium size electronics projects with an iron in the 25 - 40 Watt range.
