Customer Review: Big Impact from such a little fan!

I tested out this fan before sending it off with my son when he leaves for college. The box it came in was cheap looking but that was not a big deal. The cord was very thick something you don't see on such a small fan. The only part I had to attach was the clamp. Of course I had to put it on backwards but I was able to remove it with little effort and put it back on right. I suggest you do it right the first time because the clips look like they can break easily from repeated removal. The fan is pretty quiet on both speeds and throws out a comfortable amount of air. Right now I have it on 2 and I am sitting about 4 feet away from it. I even moved another 3 feet down and can still feel the air but not as well. So sitting more than about 5 feet away would not be recommended. The clamp might be a little hard for some people to squeeze open due to the thick spring it has in it. Right now I have it mounted on my end table which only has a ledge 1 inch deep. It is holding okay but I would recommend you mount it on something a little deeper so that the fan will sit tighter in case someone accidentally hits it while walking by. The grill can easily be removed for cleaning. Fan can easily be adjusted up or down/left or right. It does have a tightener on the back to keep the fan from flopping out of position. Over all I am very please and only hope my son will get some good use out of it.

I bought this clip-on fan because I sleep on a bunk bed, and during the summer it gets pretty darn hot up there. I bought this particular model because it looked like it had a large clip. My bed is made out of 2x4's, so I needed something that could stretch that wide. The clip on this fan does just that, and could actually go wider. It can probably stretch to 2.5 inches or so, possibly more.
I always keep my fan on the second setting which keeps me plenty cool at night, when normally the air would reach a temperature of probably 80 or 85 degrees. Sometimes I even have to turn it down to the lower setting because it's making me too cold!
This fan isn't absolutely silent, but it's not very loud, either. It sounds about like most fans I've ever heard, maybe a little quieter. You can't have an absolutely quiet fan, though, and have it be moving any air. The act of moving here creates sound, so.... If you want a silent fan, buy one that's a bit weaker than this one. The 1'st setting is quieter than 2 because it's weaker, and the 2'nd setting is a bit louder.
This fan works great for my purposes. It very efficiently cools the small area I need it too, it's pretty quiet and I can sleep with it on without noticing it, and it's supposedly made in the USA. It seems pretty sturdy and I've had no trouble with it.

Most small fans are rediculously loud for the volume of air they are moving. Not this one. It is so quiet that I never think to turn it off. I have had one of these fans running in my office at work for about 6 months continuously except during power outages. The motor is still just as quiet as the day I plugged it in. (I expect this fan to operate in this manner for at least 18 months, so if it does not, I will revise this rating).
I liked the fan I have so much I ordered 2 more for my home office to help in cooling my computer equipment (as-well-as myself). I recieved duplicate orders (4 fans instead of 2). I am keeping all 4. They are just great little fans. The only design improvment I would like to see is a stronger mounting spring or a more flexible directional adjustment. That said, the spring has been strong enough to hold the unit in place attached to the vertical edge of a shelf with occasional tightening. I would be less enthusiastic to mount them this way over my kids beds.
At $15, I definitely recommend this fan. Shipping is not cheap (about $12 for 2 fans), something you may want to consider if it is available with free shipping from amazon for less than $20.

I purchased this fan for my daughter because her west-facing room gets especially hot in the evenings, even with A/C on. We had another fan that was too loud for her and that vibrated terribly when we placed it up high enough so she could feel the wind from it. This fan was the perfect solution! We clipped it on her bed and she can adjust it herself from off to high or low. It is the quietest fan in our house by far and she can still hear her Mozart good night music, which we play quietly, over the fan. The fan is easy to angle or adjust as well and the clip is strong once you've placed it so it stays in place. We are really happy with this purchase and my husband who can't stand to hear a pin drop is considering getting one for himself.
Update: We ordered a second one in 2011 and it is not identical to the one we ordered in 2008, but it is still effective, though somewhat less quiet.

We heat our home with a pellet stove, eliminating our expensive electric heat/furnace. A problem we faced was getting the warm air to circulate in the farther reaches and cooler parts of our home. This fan very effectively pulls warm air from one part of the house and delivers it to another part of the house.
It runs pretty much 24/7. Absolutely no problems with it, it is extremely quiet and we don't even know its there. It clamps on nicely to a upright on the stairs with no problems. This fan is well worth the little bit extra, (about $8-$10), you pay as compared to others, but then I don't anticipate having to replace this with another fan soon as I have done with lesser quality/throw away fans. You can tell taking it out the box it is a quality product. I will be using it during the summers to circulate the air in my office. Very much recommended.
