Customer Review: I like this, but need improvement.

This had been broken twice.
Display works, but no mist came.
I returned 1st one to customer service and replacement was sent to me.
In first month, 2nd one worked well, but same defect was happened again.
I believe this uses weak relay well-unknown maker LiLi's.
I have another humidifier AOS 7135 and this was also broken by different reason, which is corroded ultrasonic plate.
So, I picked up relay from AOS 7135 and replace AOS 7142's by it, then 7142 works again.
I like this humidifier because of rich mist if this works well, but maker needs improve choice of relay.
Well, I find curious one in Japan, Teknos JH-720.

This looks very similar as AOS 7142 and price is about $140 now.
But when I bought JH-720 2weeks ago, it was about $80, aginst AOS 7142 $229.29.
Different points are,
- Tank material is different. AOS uses polycarbonate or acryl, JH-720 uses polypropylene.
- JH-720 does not have silver stick.
- JH-720's resin in cartridge is less than AOS.
- JH-720 has sound device, AOS does not have.
- Display is modified for Japanese market.
- Body color.

I purchased this unit about a year ago because of the low humidity. I use it year round most of the time. When I first purchased it, it was pretty quiet. But then it started making gulping and glugging noises after about a few weeks of using it. I decided to stick it out. It seems to be intermittent with the noises. Sometimes it is better then others....but if you are a light sleeper and are easily bothered by noises at night then this isn't for you. Most of the time I can sleep through it, but I do recall hearing it sometimes during the night if I am not sleeping well. I don't think the humidity gauge is all that accurate. I have other units that read humidity as well and this units is usually below what the other one is reading. It does make a difference in the air and the bottom line that is what counts. Every once in a while it tries to tell me it is out of water when I just filled the water reservoir. I usually fix the problem by turning it off a couple of times and waiting a few minutes in between until it decides it wants to cooperate with me. A few times it just didn't want to turn on. But I figure all machines in the price range will probably be just as big of a pain as this one has for me. I only have to fill it once in the morning and once at night. Have only been using this for a little over 24 hours. Settings seem to work well, and very easy to program. According to my "external" hygrometer, it has raised the humidity level in the room from 25% to around 40%. But, the digital readout on the humidifier itself has only gone from 25% at start, to 29% now. I know this is inaccruate, as I've been using the external hygrometer for over 30 days with an older humidifier, and today is the 1st day I've seen frost on the windows; meaning it's putting out more moisture than the one it replaced. - If the internal hygrometer is innacurate, that defeats half the reason for choosing this model, which is aotumatic shut-off and turn-on to keep a constant humidity level.
Anyway, looks great and has a ton of options that most do not have. You can see the steam shooting from the output spout, so you know it's doing somthing.
Think I might take it back and exchange for the exact same model. Hopfully this one just has a broken hygrometer... Hopefully, as I've seen a previous post that listed the same exact issue.

Last year I purchased a Bionaire after my old Bionaire humidifier died. I had to return it after a month since the cleaning light came on and wouldn't go off despite repeated cleanings. So, I traded it in for a much more expensive Air O Swiss. It worked beautifully for a month until we retired it for the summer. This fall I cleaned it, replaced the beads and the silver stick and fired it up. It consistently comes on and it resets beautifully after cleaning, Right there that seems to be better than average. However, I have noticed TONS of white dust comes out of it despite new little beads in the cartridge and a new silver stick. I didn't notice it so much last year. I've changed the beads and the stick again after 2 months and the white dust is still accumulating.
Pros: Tank holds 2 nights worth of water set at 40% humidity. Easy to clean and fill. Works consistently. Is pretty quiet. Doesn't seem to bother my allergies or asthma.
Cons: Poor aesthetics (ugly), lots of white dust, and expensive to maintain.

This review is for the product itself and not the supplier. The supplier got it out to me very fast. The product has to be cleaned too often. The filter must be changed more often than the manufacturer says to keep down the emissions. If you use it period, 24/7 or 6 hours at night, it has to be cleaned often. It emits a white powder which I believe is calcium all over everything within 10 feet, be it the tv, dresser, hardwood floors etc. I have it set upon a stool aboaut 3-4 feet high but the steam goes up and what goes up must come down. White powder all over everthing. So, while it had great reviews and that is the reason I purchased it, I would not have bought it had I known about the emissions. The positive side of the unit, is that it does help me to wake up with a less-than-normal sore throat from allergies. That is good, so I use it anyway. I just wish it did not have all the emissions of white powder.
