Customer Review: First year: worked perfectly; Second year: makes loud intermittent popping noise and not as effective

The first year, this unit worked great. But, this winter, this unit makes an annoyingly loud intermittent popping noise. I can only guess that it is due somehow to the spring at the bottom of the reservoir, but I can't figure out why it's happening or how to fix it. Also, it appears that the unit is not as effective as last year. Not sure why. I do need to purchase a new ionic pin thingy, but other than that, I think it's been properly maintained.
I've just emailed Air-O-Swiss's customer service, but seeing the other comments, I'm not hopeful to get an answer. I'll post back if I figure this thing out.

We've gone through three different versions of this humidifier at this point via returns.
It's quiet when you first get it, but the fan progressively gets louder and louder. I'm not a light sleeper, but it was even bothering me before the latest return. My husband is a light sleeper and is having a lot of trouble with it.
The humidity gauge doesn't seem to work and appears to operate randomly.
The best I can say for it is that it does emit lots of mist. I'm going to try a different humidifier next time, and really can't recommend this one. Too bad.

This humidifier is great for programing humidity, fan speed, sleep mode, etc.
BUT IF YOU HAVE HARD WATER DO NOT BUY IT. It puts out white dust that will go all over your house. I have three Sharper Image Ionic breezes, on two floors of my house. I had to clean them every day and they were covered with white dust. Besides that; my furnature , TV screen, etc.were covered with white dust within two days. I buought a Honeywell with a exchangable filter that uses vapor rather than mist to humidify the air. This works great. Very little white dust. Half the cost.

I've just finished with the second of these that I've owned. It's true that while they work, they work really well. But after about a year, the ultrasonic membrane stops working, even with proper maintenance. This is a non-repairable part, so that's it. The first time, I took it back to Bed, Bath & Beyond and they exchanged it, but now it's failed again, same fault, same timeframe, and I really would rather have something more reliable. The recent poster's remarks about their customer service are also true.Customer Review: Started out well... Finished Not So Good

Bought this item about 1.5 years back... After about 2 months into use, proper cleaning, etc the tank leaked all over the place. Called Air-O-Swiss and they eventually sent a replacement....
Well recently the replacement started to do the same thing - leak all over the place.
It's a decent humidifier but the quality of the build is horrible.
If there are other options for you get a different one.
