Tools and Hardware Reviews of Air-O-Swiss AOS 7144 Ultrasonic Humidifier

Customer Review: Review by Sinus sufferer
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned 6 humidifiers over the past 9 years ranging from cheap honeycombed cold air to slant fins and Air o Swiss 7135 to my new favorite Air o Swiss 7144. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a cheap humidifier -- you will spend way too much time cleaning, buying and searching for filters and it will just end up broken.

This humidifier is simple, fills easily, runs all night and is completely SILENT. Our kids have the AOS 7135 in their room -- it has a larger capacity and it is equally easy to maintain, but it is noisier than this model which is not good for the light sleeper. I had Slant fin for 3 years and it still works well, but what a pain in the *** to clean and care for (changing filters, cleaning with vinager daily and bleach weekly) plus it is noisy (gurgling sound of boiling water). This humidifier has been a lifesaver in the winter when the air is dry -- it really think it helps us escape from neverending colds. Worth the money -- and I am thrifty.

Customer Review: Make Moist Air in Desert
Summary: 5 Stars

Most discussions of humidifiers focus on places where the winters are cold, and forced air heating dries out the air. But this unit, which can produce either warm or cool mist, is great for the 110+degree F temperatures routinely reached in the five summer months of the desert Southwest. Presumably its warm-mist function will work well to improve air conditions in winter, but that test has yet to be run. It does require maintenance, like all such units. And in Phoenix where the water is hard, it runs best on distilled water, which cuts down on the need to descale, but adds to running costs. Is dehumidifying with this expensive unit and distilled water worth it? Absolutely, because of the added health advantages. It is simply better to moisten the air one breathes (especially at night), than to use eye drops many times a day and various associated treatments for dry throat and sinuses. The unit helped immensely to ease recovery in an adult for tonsil removal.

Customer Review: Works for me!
Summary: 5 Stars

I do agree with others that it does not cover a very large area. My bedroom is approx. 225-250 sq. feet, and it only covers the area near my bed. That's fine with me because I only need it when I'm sleeping. Even my diabetic cat (who has dry skin due to her illness) loves it! She now sleeps right next to it.

Since I fill it with water from a reverse osmosis system, I do not need the cartridge. I never get white dust. I clean it every 2-3 weeks. I've owned it for one year and never had any problems. My only complaint would be the awkwardness of filling the tank and having to flip it over. I end up spilling a little bit of water, but I always have a towel under it since I know it's going to spill.

I LOVE the cool mist when the weather gets warmer. I close my window and the cool mist falls gently over my face and upper body. What a relief!

I haven't changed the ionic silver stick, yet. Don't know if I really need to...

Customer Review: 7144 Is The Best-Performing Ultrasonic Humidifier Of The Many We Have Tried
Summary: 5 Stars

7144 is by far the best ultrasonic humidifier of the many we have purchased; we intend to acquire more of them.

We live in a 34-story highrise in Chicago. Despite the multi-pane windows on each of the several sides bounding our large condominium, the almost continual 15-35+ kt winds with powerful gusts penetrate into our unit and ensure very dry internal air during -25F winters.

A single 7144 delivers its advertised performance to one living or sleeping room under those circumstances. 7144 is automatic and relatively maintenance-free with Chicago municipal tap water. It does not emit visible mineral deposits and is barely audible. Controls are intuitive.

My sole complaint is that the 7144 is expensive to purchase. Nonetheless, 7144 and its maintenance supplies are worth the price. We plan to purchase additional 7144 for our other rooms and also for our offices.

Customer Review: Absolutely, this is the best of the best humidifier out there...
Summary: 5 Stars

I left CA for TX, due to the atrocious job market, and found extremely dry air. Even my african grey parrot began plucking away her beautiful feathers. This humidifier saved her life and my nasal passages. It provides extremely quiet performance and healthful humidity, which I set at 60%. Ironically, every time the forced air heating system cycles in the house, the hygrometer dives 20% within minutes... No wonder, we were dry as a bone before the 7144. In fact, I believe so much in this product, I have three of them - and they have performed flawlessly. Always remember, though, to soak the crystals 24 hours before use or you may end up with problems, as noted in the previous reviewer who rated this product a one star... As a pediatrician, I am highly endorsing this product for my patients with allergies, and recurrent upper airway problems...
