I bought one of this units (All-Power APG3014 - 2,000 Watt generator)from Amazon and it shipped @8/18/2010. It arrived several days later. Visual inspection only found bend frame (JD1200-K-01) and small portion of the panel (with one bend screw for ground connection). Since, in my judgement, when I did visual inspection, these damages from the transportation, won't cause operation problem and I did not start it since we did not have power outrage at that time. So, I did not report it. Now, I proofed that I am wrong by not start it immediately and asked for replacing the other unit at that time. The reason: I found the hard to swallow lesson @ 1/27/2011 when ice stormed DC area and knocked out the power line for several days. I loss power for more than 2-days and needed to use it the first time:
When I tried to start this engine, I can not find fuel valve as described in starting procedure. After carefully check the unit (with compare the diagram in the user's manual) and box one more time, there is a broken curved (cast iron? )metal piece in the box with label "fuel->" and the way it broken (i.e., broken at the surface and it looked flat surface like normal device) you could not find it by visual inspection only.
In order to let fuel flow to the combustion chamber, I quick replace it with quality automobile gasline tube and it started like a charm. When it saved my food in refrigerator and provided emergency radio sound and lights as it suppose to be (I should give them 4-5 stars), but, I also found their customer service and one year part warranty nearly not existing (that why a 4-5 stars quickly drop down to 2 stars):
I first check their web site (i.e., "[...]"), this site only allow you to register your equipment, address for you to write to them in "contact" section provide you the e-mail address simply not accept any e-mail so I failed to file my "replacing part under one year warranty" term. They do not have linkage to "service center" locator, call their phone line without answer; try to fax the request to them for more than four days (1/27 - 1/31/2011)when fax line either not existing or constantly busy so fax transmission also impossible (fax line number "606-855-0340" can be found from their web site only but not listed in user's manual).
When I tried to find where I can get replacement part in case the parts warranty is a total failure, when All Power America promise they do not have part supply problem, their web can not even provide the part list/price because the linkage to part for this unit is in "Gray" color which means not available.
Now, for the safety reason, I have to drain the gasoline out of system each night when I turn it off and refill the fuel into the system in the morning before restart it. It add lots of labor, and, because the replacement gasoline tube I used to bypass "broken at arrival fuel valve' did not have valve to cut the fuel flow, I have to use choke to force shut-off.
When I continue to search my way to contact this company to get replacement part under one year part warranty term, here is my recommendation :
(1) Start your engine several times immediately after you receive you generator; and
(2) return it and request a replacement unit immediately if you found any problem. You may stuck in the situation I encountered : by trust this company's warranty to fix their unit but can not even get their attention at all because all of the communication channel they provided in their manual or web-site are not working.
2/22/2011 Update:
I decided to use most reliable communication: US Postal Service to make my claim. I send out the letter @2/11/2011. Five days later, after they received my letter, they replied immediately. After verified my purchase-date which I need to send in my amazon receipt by fax or e-mail to them, and trust me, both fax and e-mail system work perfectly this time without any delay. Today, 2/22/2011, I received the correct parts. After installed it by myself (i.e., I do not believe this is their SOP even this is a simple installation. May be, because I am a certified mechanism, they do send part to me and allow me to perform self-service part replacement. For most user, I do believe that they will ask you to send you equipment to their dealer for the service). After part change, and it works like new.
I will re-instate my original 4-1/2 to 5 star rating. I would like to upgrade it to 5 star rating because of their equipment is very good, effective, cheap and low noise. My saving this time (between 1/27 and 1/31/2011)on the food item only already paid for the whole generator. I lower the rating last time because of the frustration I got associated with the glitches of communication. When I get service call through, everything resolve in very short time. I will recommend my friend to buy this equipment in the future. May be, I will buy a 6500 Watts unit next year.
