Tools and Hardware Reviews of Powerbuilt 648796 Honda Crankcase Pulley Removal Tool

Customer Review: Worked great...
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not a husky or strong guy, quite the opposite of both. I've had to call in help to remove a crankshaft pulley bolt before, but after I found out about this tool, I decided to buy one and give it a shot. I was able to break free that stubborn bolt by myself, with just a few well-placed kicks on the breaker bar (car couldn't be raised high enough to use a breaker bar). I placed one breaker bar under that arm on the tool (with the square hole), so that it was closer to the pulley... I let that breaker bar rotate over and jam up against the control arm area to hold the pulley in place. Then I used a longer breaker bar to actually remove the bolt. I don't recommend my method too much but figured I would share. I'll make sure next time that I have the proper clearance to use a cheater pipe on a breaker bar, and a helper to hold one breaker bar. But I'm glad I now have this tool to make the job easier! Is it any wonder there are currently 80+ 5 star reviews? ;-)

For the record, I used this on a del Sol's D16z6 engine, and later test fit the tool in an H22a1 pulley (from a 1994 Prelude) to see how it would fit/work for that engine.

Customer Review: Buy it before you need it
Summary: 5 Stars

Ordered it, received it, used it, love it.
If you're ever going to need it, buy it ahead of time. Don't wait until your Honda timing belt or water pump breaks. Luckily when mine broke, I was on vacation from work the next 2 days. Although the overnight shipping was perfect and on time, I paid for it :-(
Amazon customer service even called my phone to tell me it would arrive within the hour, and it did.
This is the perfect tool for the job, if you need the 50mm. Don't order the wrong tool for the job and then leave a bad review just because you didn't know what size you needed.
Don't forget, your torque wrench probably starts at 10 ft. lbs., you need 7 & 9 ft. lbs. I didn't think ahead. Anyway, think about a torque wrench.

Customer Review: Crankshaft pulley removal tools works like a charm.
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't hesitate getting this item if need to remove any Honda crankshaft pulley because it does the job perfectly. There are some tricks to getting the pulley off that doesn't require using this hex key but this makes the job much easier even when using air tools. A must have if using hand tools. It will make life easier once you get it.

Don't let the inexpensive price fool you, this is a quality tool. A very hefty tool made with a thick steel design that will last a lifetime. It won't break or twist like some other designs. Has a good coating on it so it won't rust and makes it more scratch resistant. This one takes a simple 1/2" drive so works with many breaker bars. Fits deeply into the hex of the crankshaft and plenty of space for any socket to remove 19mm bolt. I used some DIY hack tool part in the past and this tool beats them. I've used some cheap stamped steel versions and thick cast aluminum alloy ones that twist or break. Other quality version of this tool require weird attachments handles.

Customer Review: fits honda f20c just fine
Summary: 5 Stars

used this to break loose the flywheel pulley bolt on my F20c. works very well, fits snug with ample space for deep or even normal socket through the middle.
***BE SURE TO INVEST IN REAL BREAKER BARS!!***
PURCHASING A STURDY 30somthing INCH 1/2" bar is a must, and lesser size sidekick is smart as well!!
i broke a 3/8 socket and wounded another trying to break the flywheel pulley bolt loose using cheater bars on sockets.... bad idea. the fly wheel pulley can be torqued from 200foot lbs to around 300foot lbs!!! id guess it easily gets near or over 300foot lbs torqued with a good 50k on the engine...

it was still a bit of a task even with the true breaker bars, i actually had to put a extra piece of pipe on the 3foot breaker bar for a bit of extra torque!!! the smaller breaker bar had a sturdy heavy duty pipe (from a 3ton floor jack handle) on it to keep it locked against the frame of the engine stand.

definitely a needed tool
good luck!

Customer Review: Great tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I used this tool to loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt on a 2003 Honda Pilot. Previous attempts using 3 different air impact wrenches yielded no result. Using the Alltrade Crankshaft pulley holder along with a 5' breaker bar finally loosened the 19mm bolt. A great tool, very well made, finished and very durable. I used to use adhoc methods in the previous ~20 timing belts I changed on Honda's to hold the pulley while loosening the bolt but this is the best tool I've every come across. Anyone that is going to remove that bolt (most likely for a timing belt or water pump change) should get this tool.

On a sidenote, I did call a Honda dealership to make certain that the bolt was clock-wise tighten and the service tech said it was (normal bolt threads) and that from the factory they are "very very very tight"/
