Tools and Hardware Reviews of Powerbuilt 648796 Honda Crankcase Pulley Removal Tool

Customer Review: worked fine
Summary: 5 Stars

Be ready to exert some force to remove the bolt. This tool did the trick for holding the crank pulley while I went medieval with the breaker bar, 19mm socket and extension pipe. The first socket from the auto store split open, the extensions bent and broke and I resorted to using a Craftsman socket and 4 foot long pipe on the breaker bar.

You NEED this tool if you are going to attempt this procedure. The 14mm timing/balancer belt/tensioner adjusting bolt was also tight beyond belief. A hex box end wrench with a pipe extension helps with that one.

Customer Review: Perfect tool at a great price

This tool is almost required for removal and replacement of the harmonic balancer. You can do it without it, but it's hard to get 129 lb of torque without turning the engine over. For the price, it is worth it for the assurance of doing it right and saving the frustration.

The first time I removed the harmonic balancer, I did not use this and did not torque it enough, a week or so later, the balancer came off, snapping belts and striping its bolt hole, requiring me to tear the car apart again, and replace the balancer and belts.

Customer Review: Tool works good
Summary: 5 Stars

The tool works good, My car is a 2002 Honda Civic as others have stated the tool is loose in the pulley. The trick is to lower the car low enough and put the breaker bar against the floor and that will hold it.DO NOT hold the bar with your hand because if it slips you will get hurt. A helper is recomended to get the tool in the correct position. Then you will need at least a 4 foot cheater bar use the jack stand method with a 24 inch extension as shown in the video and get ready to pull it!.[...]When it breaks loose it sounds like a shot gun!

Customer Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

Did a timing belt change on my 99 CRV. Repair manual said to use a chain type holding tool. No way would that work. Searched around the internet and everywhere. They all wanted $90+ for it. Then found this one on amazon. Worked EXCELLENT! Had to use a 7 foot pipe slipped on to a breaker bar. That bolt was tight! No way I could hold that pulley without this special tool. Since the bolt was so tight, I thought it was turn "clockwise" to loose, so I called the dealer. They said it was the standard "counter clockwise" to remove.

Customer Review: Worth its weight in gold
Summary: 5 Stars

This tool is great, without it there is no way I would have gotten the crank bolt out with regular hand tools. Other than buying a $200 impact wrench.... I set it up just as described in a honda Forum, and it cracked loose in 10 seconds. You will HAVE to use a peice of 18" pipe on a 1/2" breaker bar for this to work, and a jack stand for support, but worth every penny to do the timing belt in my Accord. Do not hesitate to buy this, quality is excellent, Amazon shipped it lightening fast. EXCELLENT
