Customer Review: the nightlight is actually optional

A few posters have complained that the product is too bright and you cannot have it totally dark in the room and still have the green light come on in the morning. But you actually CAN have it only turn green in the morning with no yellow light at night. This is a complaint I've seen on a few reviews on here, so I thought I'd post this clarification for others who may be considering buying this product.
From the American Innovative website FAQ on this product:
"I am using the "Ok to wake!" feature. Can I set just the green light to come on in the morning?
Yes. If you do not want the yellow light on during the night, you can set just the green light to come on in the morning. The LIGHT ON time will be set to the desired "Ok to wake!" time (i.e. 7am), the LIGHT OFF time is set to the time you want the green light to turn off (i.e. 9am) and the LIGHT change time must be set equal to the OFF time (i.e. 9am). With this set up the green light will come on at 7am and turn off at 9am."

Our 2 1/2 year old kept getting up at night and was trending earlier every week on wake-up times. 5:30 am is just too early! We asked for advice and a friend recommended this clock. From the very first day we used it, it was a lifesaver! We told him he couldn't get up until it was green, and if he'd awaken before then (we set it for 6:30 am), he'd stay laying down talking quietly to himself. It allowed us to get back to sleep. Then, when the light turned green, we'd hear excited squeals: "Green! It's GREEN!"
He absolutely loves his clock and presses the button to hear the spoken time each morning when he wakes up. I know that this clock was designed to remain useful for many years, including through learning to tell time, so we feel like it is well worth the purchase price.
As a side note, we bought this months ago and every morning we still hear excited "it's green!!" exclamations from his room. Only now, he tends to wake up between 6:30 am and 7:10 am. =)

This clock was a Christmas gift from 'Santa' for my 3-year-old son. He has been interested in clocks and telling time for the past few months, so when a parenting blog I frequently read had a review on this clock, I knew I had to buy it!
We set it up in my son's room yesterday. It's not right next to his bed, but on the dresser about 6-8 feet away from the bed. The yellow nightlight is a nice, soft glow, perfect for a night-light. In fact, we removed the existing night-light from my son's room and are now just using the clock as the only night-light. We have the clock set to turn from yellow to green at 7am, and have told my son that he's allowed out of bed when the light turns green, so we'll see if it works in the coming days.
My son has been having fun tapping the right 'foot' on the clock and reporting the time to us. Overall, I am really pleased with this purchase and I definitely feel that this clock will be in my son's room for years to come!

My five-year-old is an early riser. She's just learning to tell time, and we had a hard time explaining to her when she was allowed to come out of her room. This clock solved the problem. If the clock isn't glowing green, she has to stay in her room.
I usually keep the clock set for the same wake-up time every day. It's not easy to set the lights, etc. the first time, but once you get the hang of it it's not hard. The buttons are on the back of the clock, so while you're looking at the front to set the time, you're pressing a button on the back. By the second time I changed the wake-up time I had it down pat.
I think this clock will help my daughter learn to tell time. I have it set to display the clock face and digital time. She loves that she can press the "foot" of the clock and it tells her the time aloud. The volume is adjustable, which is nice. This clock is EXACTLY what I wanted. My daughter says, "I love the clock but I wish the other foot talked to me too."

I searched for a clock that had both a traditional clock-face (with hands) and a digital display to help teach my kids (5 and 7 years old) to tell time. This clock has been a great teaching tool. Not only can the kids read the digital display and then associate it with the hands, they can also push a button and the clock with tell them the time. This feature is especially useful for my 5 year old. The night-light feature (the whole unit glows) is an added feature. You can choose one of 3 colors for the night light and you can choose the intensity of the light. The alarm works well, although it is truly an alarm and was upsetting to my older child at first. But you can adjust the volume and the kids learned quickly how to silence the alarm by pushing one of the big buttons on the front of the clock. Overall, I think it's a great clock and I'm very pleased with it.
