Tools and Hardware Reviews of Aquasana undercounter water filter system

Customer Review: Not impressed after 2 years of use
Summary: 2 Stars

I did some research before chosing this unit - although it is hard to find reputable and unbiased info on the web the Aquasana system seemed to have a good reputation. I would agree with other reviewers that the system seems flimsy; although I haven't had any parts break, I had trouble getting replacement cartridges to fit without leaking. I also have had problems with the dispenser dribbling and running on for a while after use.

My biggest issue is perhaps not the fault of the unit, but the water tastes weird if it sits around in a glass for a couple of hours after being dispensed. Not sure if this is due to my water supply or to the water filter.

Customer Review: Improves water taste very little
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't know about leaking problems. I installed (under counter) myself
and had no trouble. Connections are very simple (too simple?) you just push hoses into recepticals. You cannot connect to your ice maker for filtered water to refrig. Our water out here in the country has a mineral taste, somewhat salty. We had a RO system that just broke down (4 years old it took all mineral taste out of water. I am trying this system to retain some minerals in the water, however it does not improve the taste of our water much. Maybe 40% better. So just know that compared to RO your water will taste much more like straight tap water.

Customer Review: Undercounter Filtration System
Summary: 2 Stars

I have owned mine for about a year without any problems, but now that my wife is pregnant I'm more concerned about the ability of this product to filter out what they claim. Until she delivers I'm sticking with bottled water. I need proof, real test results of this unit.

Customer Review: The worst purcahse ever...
Summary: 1 Stars

Why I decided to buy this product before I checked the reviews on Amazon is beyond me. If I had, I would never have bought such a poorly designed product.
It is impossible to change the filters in this product as the threaded caps for each filter unit stick so tightly that it's impossible to remove then using the tabs provided. Unless you add vegatable oil (which defeats the purpose of filtering your water) to lubricate the caps you would need a wrench to remove the caps. Using a wrench to unseat the caps will ultimately wreak the cap and you will be forced to buy a new one. Auqasana will happily sell you new caps.
The unit leaked the first time I installed it. I ordered new caps thinking that perhaps there was a problem with the way I had installed the unit, but no. Even after a new cap was installed, this unit continued to leak from the coupling between the filtered water tube and the cap. Good thing they added a high ridge around the top of unit which collects this water so you can sope it up with a sponge later making you regret your purchase even more!
It is ugly. The undercounter solution really is an inverted countertop unit hanging on a metal frame that appears as if it was really designed for something else and retrofitted to hold the "filter unit".
Lame, really lame.
I bought a GE model instead.

Customer Review: Aquasana AQ-4000
Summary: 1 Stars

The Aquasana AQ-4000 is a rip-off. The problem is that the inner housing design was and may still be faulty and Aqusana won't honor their warranty. This is a manufacturer defect and Aquasana has refused to honor the warranty on my unit and obviously many others as you can see in other reviews. The inner housing has 2 caps which are extremely difficult to put on properly due to thin flimsy gaskets which pinch easily despite proper lubrication. The housing itself can't handle either the pressure of the water or the cap being tightened enough to stop it from leaking. Whichever it is the result is the same - the housing breaks and then leaks. When I bought the unit I wondered why it came with an outer housing which looked like a bucket but now I think it's because they knew these would leak. I have check our water pressure and it's completely normal according to our town so it's not caused by high water pressure. The salt in the wound is that Aquasana has changed the design but won't replace the broken one. The new design however is also being reported to break as well so getting a replacement may not be the fix. It would however show they support their warranty and customers if they replaced the faulty product. Too bad because the water is actually filtered well. I had the town test the water and the filtration is very good.
