1. Works well, but be prepared to be covered in snow. They call it avalanche for a reason.
2. If it's windy, forget it. The plastic slide blows all over. You'll have to wait until the wind stops.
3. It doesn't do valleys. Use their other snow rake to pull snow out of those.
4. I've read several sources that say you only need to remove snow from the lower few feet of your roof. That is not true of my roof. I tried that approach and now I have ice dams 8 feet up my roof. If I don't want ice dams, all the snow must come off. By the way, those mid-roof ice dams are now causing water to leak into the valley areas of my tongue and groove ceiling boards.
5. Do you have a place to store all that snow you're going to remove? Are you prepared to move it yet again or leave it all where it falls? Is that going to be good for your siding, foundation and basement?
6. The only permanent fix to ice dams is a properly designed and constructed roof. Before you buy a home in snow country, be sure you look at it in mid-winter. If the snow is piled high on the roof and there are no ice dams (check the valleys), that's a good roof. Don't buy a house with an ice dam problem. Our house had a problem with ice dams and I knew it. I knew the roof and understructure would need complete removal and replacement. The price I paid will allow that work to be done. If you build a house, be absolutely certain the roof is done right. DO NOT SKIMP ON THIS!! I look forward to selling my roof rakes at a rummage sale one day.
