Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bissell : 3950 Velocity Vacuum

Customer Review: Great Vacuum
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great vacuum. The last upright I had from Bissell was not very powerful even though it was very noisy. This vacuum has changed my view of Bissell. I just vacuumed one room and saw things spinning around in the cyclone that I never knew existed in my carpet.

The design is aesthetically pleasing, it has powerful suction. The brush path is good. It is a little bigger and heavier than some other vacs but it is well worth it.

The only annoying thing I have found is that it does have to be emptied frequently, however that is because it is picking so much dirt, dust and everything else off the floor or carpet, so I think that is a positive thing in the light of its cleaning purpose. The power cord wrap is a little small so it takes a lot of wrapping to coil the power cord back up.

Customer Review: THIS VACUUM SUCKS... IN A GOOD WAY!
Summary: 4 Stars

i have had this vacuum for i think three years now almost. it still has suction and is still is great shape. i love it. its easy to push, maneuverable, doesn't scuff, and it picks up all the shed hair from my two beautiful dogs(pug and pekingnese!).
i have had no wear down, no motor probelems, no loss of power. maybe it's because i'm not stupid enough to neglect cleaning the filter? i have purchased many other vacuums, many for more money, some for much more. finally, when factoring in price ease of use and overall satisfaction, its probably the best purchase i have made. my only complaints are sometimes the hose pops out, and i also would have enjoyed more attachments. that's two small complaints. great vacuum. oh and it's purple. chicks dig it!!

Customer Review: A very High Quality Cost Efffective Machine...
Summary: 4 Stars

This Bissell was a delightful fulfillment of what it promises. It has excellent suction, a nice wide array of accessories and has an ease of use feeling. We are quite delighted with the results we achieve on floors, furniture, carpets floor coverings and deep pile wall to wall. An excellent quality piece of engineering. I would buy this vacum cleaner without hesitation again as well as for a gift for any of our children. Well done Bissell.

Customer Review: Jaded by Dyson
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm rating this vacuum fairly low, but to be fair my most recent vacuum was a Dyson that I lost custody of in a divorce, so the comparison isn't apples-to-apples.

That being said, I'm a pretty disappointed with this vacuum. First the good: It picks up dirt pretty well. I can't do a side by side with the Dyson, but I image the dirt sucking abilities are probably pretty close. So for the money, this vacuum DOES get the dirt. For that reason, I rank it a "3".

Now the bad: I'm confused by the other reviews that say this vacuum is heavy... it seems incredibly light to me, so much so that it falls over whenever you use the hose. My house had been empty for a while and there were little dust bunnies all over the walls... I used the dust brush with the hose, and the vacuum must've fallen over a dozen times. Several times, the handle hit the wall and left a mark! I wasn't stretching the hose more than 4 or 5 feet.
There are 3 attachment points for the hose to the body, so it's a bit cumbersome to detach from the vacuum for use.
The cord gets tangled up in the hose a lot, and vice versa.
The dusting brush bristles are too short and stiff... I'm concerned that they could scratch things.
The dirt container is impossible to empty without getting dust all over the place.
Mine isn't sealed very well. After using the vacuum, it had dirt all over it! Where is this coming from? I have no idea, but it's obviously not staying IN the vacuum where it belongs.
Also, a lot of dirt stays inside the hose, which makes me question the overall suction. The hose does work pretty well with the crevice tool, but on it's own, the suction seems rather weak.

I'm returning mine ASAP.

Customer Review: Good Vac
Summary: 3 Stars

We have had this vaccum for 3 years. We bought it from Target. It works well...what can I say for the price? My parents are into getting real high quaility vaccums like Miele and you really see the difference between those and the vacs you buy at every-day stores like Target. Once we move into a bigger house we will splurge for a Miele canister probably and this Bissell will be used for covering real large surface areas while the Miele will get the details and small area carpets and furniture.

Some things to consider.....

This is my first real vaccum, especially after getting married so it was a big thing and I loved it at first...until I saw my parent's $500 Miele.

If you have a new dog, stow away any vaccum cleaner....our schnauzer dog, when it was a puppy, chewed up the cord. It cost $100 at the vaccum repair store. We could have purchased a whole new one for almost that amount, but it felt like a waste on the environment so we fixed it instead.

You have to take the main hose out of the vaccum body to attach the extension tubes and attachments. If you are not observant sometimes the hose pops out and you may be vaccumuing nothing as a result. Just connect the hose again.

One of the attachment tubes broke off on the Turbo Brush. It is not fixable. We have to buy another Turbo Brush online for about $30.00. My wife liked to clean the sofa with it. Turbo Brush is actually a real helpful tool.

Its loud...I dont like to be around when my wife is cleaning with it.

So its a real great product but minus one star because my dream vaccum is a Miele,

and minus one star because of some durability issues and noise.
