Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bissell : 3950 Velocity VacuumCustomer Review: Bad Vacuum, Bad Customer Service Summary: 1 Stars
So, I must write that this vacuum is terrible. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, that I just had a lemon. But Bissell customer service made it clear to me that they do not stand behind their product.
Here is the situation. I bought the vacuum in Oct. and 6 short months later the belt broke. SIX MONTHS....a $129 vacuum that broke in less than a year. I wasn't super upset at first, I said to myself...no worries...I can just contact Bissell and let them know the situation and since they have a limited warranty for a year, they will happily send me a replacement part and all will be right with the world.
Oh no...that was not the case. They said the belt is a wearable part and that it was not covered. So I was shocked...a potential lifetime customer, someone that refuses to buy a Dyson on principle that it costs a fortune. So I kindly wrote back, the situation again, but to no avail. They refused to make this purchase right. So I am sharing my story with future potential customers.
You have the right to your own decision, but just know...my experience was less than positive and I really believed in this product. Oh well, another company that says it cares about its customers...but it's actions spoke loud and clear.
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM! Summary: 1 Stars
Forget all these reviews from people who've had it a few weeks. I listened and am so very sorry I did. Do not think, oh, this negative review is just an aberration, they must have gotten a bad one.
The problem is the bad design. Not getting a lemon.
Yes, it has good suction. But it is misery to operate. MISERY! Dirt and pet hair get clogged in the top of the vacuum, not the bottom "bagless" part. That part comes out. It's the top that gets clogged. And the design means there is no way to reach there. Fingers won't fit without cutting your hands. Long tools can't dislodge the stuff without great effort.
Belts are hard to change and break all the time.
It starts smoking sometimes. And burns the carpet if you leave it standing still while trying to use the extensions. So you have to remember to tump it over while using the extensions to prevent that.
And if you've never had a bagless, beware: Dirt goes everywhere. And you have to empty it often. Thus you're making big efforts to keep your vacuum clean.
But even if you like bagless: DO NOT GET THIS ONE.
Customer Review: Cautionary Tale Summary: 1 Stars
Don't get me wrong, I loved this vacuum. It did have the trouble others spoke of about the hose getting knocked out easily, but it was great with the excessive pet hair from my overly large and hairy feline. But here's the thing: I never got the message somehow that the FILTERS ON A BAGLESS REALLY NEED TO BE CLEANED AND CHANGED OFTEN. While I was vacuuming one day, it suddenly became alarmingly loud and I'd burned up the motor. THE WARNING INDICATOR NEVER CAME ON. The repair shop was going to charge me over 200 bucks to fix it and I would have had to wait for a motor to be shipped. My poor vacuum was just past warranty and is contributing to a landfill now. I hate being part of a disposable society. The repair shop said that they constantly get in these bagless vacuums that have burned up in these circumstances. I checked out some consumer reviews and have since bought a Hoover Tempo (bagged) for only 64 bucks, and so far I'm really happy with it. Changing the bag is a far less dusty experience than emptying the dirt container too.
Customer Review: Doesn't suck so this item really sucks! Summary: 1 Stars
I have owned vacuums that cost less that worked better. I do not have plush carpeting and it could not even clean something so basic. It worked okay for a while but after a short time, it seemed to lose any suction. It sort of moves things around but absorbs nothing. It's also incredibly messy when you clean it. After I'm done vacuuming, it leaves a ton of dirt on the floor where the vacuum finished even if I leave it running for a bit. The closet where it was kept is filthy! I had it when I did my major spring cleaning. When I moved the furniture there were many small dust bunnies. It couldn't pick up any of them. I picked them up by hand.
It's so bad that even after less than two years I won't even give it to a second hand store. No one should be suckered into buying it.
It's extremely lightweight, I'll give it that. But I guess you get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Don't Buy Summary: 1 Stars
I have owned this vacuum for 6 months, I HATE IT!!! It was fine at first, but I have already had to replace parts in it (roller brush and belt) and even with the new parts it is still giving me problems. If I use it to vacuum more than one room it starts getting overheated and the belt starts smelling, it also has poor suction and doesn't hardly pick up anything. when I empty the dirt out of the cantainer it always dumps a bunch of dirt on the floor, and it tips over easly. I am very disapointed in this product, and I can't wait until I can get a different one. I will never buy a Bissell again.
