Tools and Hardware Reviews of Twin Draft Guard BrownCustomer Review: A great solution for bay area lofts Summary: 5 Stars
We bought a new-construction loft last winter, along with a new puppy who barked at ANYONE she heard walking outside. While on our family visits at Christmas last year, I found myself in a random drugstore and saw this product, and purchased it not for the draft-blocking properties, but in hopes it would also block out sound. The product looked cheaper than I thought--literally two lengths of cylinder foam within cheap brown canvas, blocked at the end by a velcro flap--but did the trick! It blocked a lot of the sound as well as drafts for a few months. The only time it failed was when the puppy got bored one day and chewed it into pieces! In the meantime, there are literally four other lofts on our level that STILL have the draft guard in their front doors (and I'm happy to say, it was after we first got ours!). It's now the end of summer, in the bay area, and those folks still have theirs on their doors. That should be a recommendation in itself, as these loft-buyers next door to us are very design oriented and yet use this inexpensive device. I'm here on Amazon to purchase our second set. If it weren't for the puppy eating the first one, we would still be enjoying the muffled sounds and drafts of our hallways, and I can't wait for our dogs to be much more mellow about what goes on outside the front door!
Customer Review: I found the solution to the lose fit of the "Twin Draft Guard"! Summary: 5 Stars
I left this review in a few places (comment sections).
I found the solution to the lose fit of the "Twin Draft Guard"!!!
I was having the same problem as a few others about the sloppy fit of this item.
Solution: I went to Lowes and bought one ¾ inch PVC pipe insulation FOAM.
This foam is of the stiff kind (while holding the middle of the foam insulation, both ends should stick out. If when holding the foam insulation both ends flop down, then you've got the wrong foam insulation.) and should cost no more than a $1.30.
Make sure you get the uncut version of this pipe insulation foam. This foam is a bit wider than the foam that comes with the "Twin Draft Guard" (TDG).
One side of the foam insulation slipped into the TDG reasonable but the other side I had to massage it in (a little difficult). That alone made it go from a sloppy fit to a nice snug-to-tight fit.
Now, to stop it from sliding off the door when I open the door between the hallway and room... I put a thumbtack at the very end of the TDG under the door.
Perfect! It's now snug and doesn't slide off the door when opening or closing the door.
Hopefully this will help others.
Customer Review: WHAT A DIFFERENCE THIS MADE! Summary: 5 Stars
My elderly mother was always feeling cold in the winter months and we had to constantly adjust the heat to make her comfortable. The heater running constantly at a higher setting made everyone except for her much too warm, not to mention sending the electric bill soaring. I saw this draft guard and ordered it, hoping for the best. It was wonderful! Mom can now sit in her favorite chair nearest the front door without shivering. The heater has been turned down to a more tolerable level. The draft guard was easy to assemble and install and has made a HUGE difference in keeping the cold air out. We live in South Texas and have hot summers, and I can't wait to see how it does with keeping the hot air out. Very satisfied!
Customer Review: evaluation of door draft protector Summary: 5 Stars
I live in a retirement community with 250 apartments in our building. One of my friends has a neighbor who smokes quite a bit. The smoke seeps under her door and pollutes the air in the hallway. Several people are sensitive to this smoke and it has become quite a problem. I ordered the door draft protector and gave it to the administration of our building. They talked with the offending resident and succeeded in getting her to allow the draft protector to be installed. The neighboring residents say it has made a considerable difference and has improved their living conditions. Everyone is very happy with the solution. The device works as it was meant to and I find the whole matter was very successful.
Customer Review: Twin Draft Guards really work! Summary: 5 Stars
I recommend these draft guards for any one with drafty doors. They are an inexpensive but effective way for cutting down on drafts from sneaking in under doors. They're simple to use too, you just slip one underneath your door and you're done. The only inconveniences are minor ones. Number one, when you open that door they will slip out of place, but it's easy enough to re-position them. Secondly, not all doors are the same size, so you may have to trim them to fit your door, but that is not hard either, as it's just a foam interior. It's too early to tell yet if they've actually saved me money on my energy bill, but it's a step in the right direction.
