I replaced 10 BRK units that were in the house when I moved here in 2001. They had been acting up and chirping frequently. While I was away on a recent business trip, all the alarms were activated at 3:00 AM. My wife was home alone, and went through amazing machinations to deactivate them. There was, gratefully, no smoke to cause the alarms to activate. So I ordered ten of these units to replace the old ones. Installation was fairly easy, and they have been quiet ever since. I called Tech Support for a problem I was having with the smoke detectors that were in my condo that I recently purchased. They gave me clear and precise instructions on how to silence them. They also told me that the detectors were 15 years old and that they should be replaced, which I agreed. They gave me the replacement model that would fit the wiring harness that was already in place so switching them out was a snap. I just purchased 3 of these to replace 15 year old BRK hardwire units that were in my house. The alarms on the old units were starting to go off randomly at all hours. I decided, despite reading other reviews on this product, to purchase the same brand since they weren't very expensive and they had several good features. I took the old ones out and replaced the new ones in under 10 minutes. It was quite easy. Although I've only had them a few days, no random alarms are going off.Customer Review: Easy installation

I already have several of these in my house. The advantage of this smoke detector is that if one sounds off, they all sound off. I purchased this to install into a room addition. I had no difficulty installing this and splicing it into the exiting network of smoke detectors. I can see where improperly spliced wires can prevent these from operating effectively. I bought this item to replace the older/outdated smoke alarms. What I like most was it plugged right into the current connector. No wires to splice. The old plate had to be replaced, but that was loosening two screws taking the old one off and putting the new one in. In all, it took me 5 minutes to swap the old with the new. If you have a BRK brand alarm, I'd strongly recommend this as a replacement.
