we moved into our house in May of 2007. We really haven't had a problem with these alarms. If one goes off, they all go off and cooking a smoky dinner in the kitchen could cause that. No big deal, they are doing their job. UNTIL last night at 4:00 in the morning when the one in the bedroom begins chirping every minute. UGH. Not to mention we have cathedral ceilings which makes it VERY interesting to try and reach the units. My husband got a ladder and got up here and yanked the battery out. Phew right? WRONG! The thing STILL chirped. Finally he yanked down the top of the unit from the ceiling and wouldn't you know...it STILL chirped but only for another 2 minutes. It was coming from the piece that he had ripped down! Kind of like a chicken with it's head cut off.
I understand having a signal to tell you the battery needs changing but can't we turn the dang thing off until daylight please??

I replaced both my direct wired (no batteries) BRK alarms due to the fact that I noticed that they were labeled to be replaced after 10 years service in 2005 (moved into house in 2008) and didnt know about that until I got up on the ladder and looked at it as the alarm was going off randomly (yes, it was unfortunately going off for me at night). So, I yanked it from the plug, went back to sleep and later googled to find this particular BRK model replacement. I replaced both easily and so far no problems ----after 1 month service so we'll see.Customer Review: Poor documentation

The unit works OK after I could figure out how to install it. It has a very innovative connector to make it easy for installing but has the worst documentation you can imagine. The print is so small and hard to read. The format of the one poster size documentation is very inconvenient. Had to go the web site and open the doc in browser, zoom it 400% to read and figure out.
