Tools and Hardware Reviews of Baker's Edge Nonstick Edge Brownie Pan

Customer Review: excellent results with this brownie pan
Summary: 5 Stars

I was skeptical about buying a fairly expensive pan just to make brownies in, but it turns out that the hype was correct about this one.

I don't know what other reviewers are talking about when they say they like the brownies at the edge of a standard pan - personally, I always liked the brownies in the middle, while the outer ones turned out hard and crunchy and got eaten last. With this pan, every brownie is like a brownie from the centre of the pan - light and crackly on the top, soft and chewy on the inside. Also, because of the extra walls in this pan, none of the brownies turn out undercooked - they're all perfectly done.

The pan is heavy and feels like a quality piece of equipment. I've used it many times with no staining or cracking issues. The included paddle is just the right size for cutting the brownies and it doesn't damage the pan. It fits commercial boxed brownie mixes perfectly.

The only remote complaint I have about this pan is that it's a bit more of a challenge to get the brownie mix into the pan, as you have to spread the mix along to get it to distribute evenly through the channels. However, that's a small price to pay for the delicious results.

Another small note is that I've found that with this pan, it takes a few minutes longer to cook than with a traditional pan.

Customer Review: The fight is over! ...what fight?
Summary: 5 Stars

This pan worked like it said. I've only used it twice so far but the brownies and the cornbread came out perfectly. The pan was a lot heavier than I expected but that is okay. When I was pouring the mix I was afraid that it wouldn't be enough mix but I just kept spreading it around until it was even. The spatula that comes with it is perfect for getting it away from the edge of the pan and cutting it. I don't use it for the spreading of it because I would already have a spatula that I was using.
When I made the corn bread I didn't cut it I just flipped it upside down on to some aluminium foil and it came right out in one piece! Both times there were only a few crumbs at the bottom but nothing stuck to the pan. I guess it takes the fun away from fighting over the edge pieces but no one has even noticed.
I think this pan has made it more fun to bake. It makes baking more interesting because it is not just a square pan. Also because of the grooves in it it is a lot more fun to wash it ans watch the water rush around the walls.

The price may be a bit expensive though for just a brownie pan but if you want more fun in the baking process than it is worth it. For me this was a free splurge that I'm glad I took.

Customer Review: Wonderful Product! I Wish I'd Bought it Sooner!
Summary: 5 Stars

For those that don't care for the gooey brownies, or any type of bar cookie, this pan is for you! Querying my sister, she told me that the brownies usually get thrown out in her house, because they eat the first edge, then end up with nothing but brownies that are gooey from the center of the pan.

It comes with a plastic spatula, and each brownie has at least two edges!

I've even baked brownies which would normally fit in a 8-inch square pan, but putting in an aluminum foil wedge to make the pan "smaller."

Not only do you get more edges on each brownie, the unique construction of the pan makes it easier to serve. The nonstick coating probably helps with serving.

For those that say they already have a brownie pan, all I can say is that I took so long to purchase the pan, because I also had a pan that would work for baking brownies. It may have been an 8-inch square or a 9 x 13-inch pan, but it wasn't a brownie pan.

I worried about cleaning the pan, but it's really not a problem. I simply soak it in soapy water, then wipe it clean.

I liked it so much, I purchased another for my sister. And I'll consider it for a wedding gift too!

Customer Review: It Really Works
Summary: 5 Stars

I first discovered the Edge Brownie pan while thumbing through a Sky Mall catalog on a recent flight. Since it looked like something my brownie-edge-craving family might enjoy, I was delighted to find it at a lower price on Amazon, so we decided to give it a try.

I was a bit concerned on my first trial because the standard box of brownie mix did not seem to sufficiently fill the pan. However, after smoothing the batter into all of the channels, and cooking it for the full time recommended on the box of mix, the brownies filled the pan to perfection.

Two side-effect adjustments made necessary by the excellent non-stick surface were 1) it requires just a misting of spray cooking oil; not the standard amount required by other pans. Otherwise the spray beads up in the pan. And 2), press-and-stick wrap will not adhere to the surface of the pan, so if you want to keep the brownies moist, it helps to wrap the covering completely around the pan, or take them out of the pan and cover them on a plate -- but then you lose the conversation-starting value of the pan.

Bottom Line: It really works!

Customer Review: Great Pan for AWESOME Brownies
Summary: 5 Stars

Pan works great. We always used to fight for the corner brownies when I was growing up (I'll use that term loosely!). Now they are all like corner brownies... they all have at least 2 edges.

Some people complained about the pan scratching, but I think they are just idiots. If you use the little plastic spatula that COMES WITH THE PAN then it doesn't scratch. I even use the spatula to cut all the brownies while they are still warm. That way you don't need to use a knife later.

The pan itself is very well made. Much heavier than I expected. Perhaps that is the secret to the good edges... the heavy pan heats up evenly.

I bought 2 pans - 1 for my Dad on Father's Day and one for my sister. They both thought they were great (they had brownies in them when I gave them to them so I made 2 batches and then ate one (or 5) brownies out of them). And now I have a pan we got as a wedding gift and we have made 3 batches in that one too.

I fully recommend this pan to ALL who used to fight for the corner brownie! (but beware, the pan might be bad for your waistline!)
