Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam CleanerCustomer Review: BEST Cleaning "tool" I have found!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I asked and received this "mop" for Christmas and couldnt have been MORE pleased with it!! RARELY do I ask for ANYTHING that has to do with CLEANING for a present but when I saw the commercial for this product I just HAD to have it! I tried it out IMMEDIATELY (which came as a SHOCK to most of those who know and love me... even though I am not the BEST housekeeper in the world... LOL) and I love, Love, LOVE IT!! I have four kids so our floors are ALWAYS dirty. Spills and such EVERYWHERE! This item EASILY cleans any hard floors with EASE! All you do is fill up the water tank, plug it in, wait for it to heat up (which only takes about a minute or two) and then you are OFF! There is NO BETTER PRODUCT that I have found thus far for cleaning my floors! The BEST part is that it not only cleans but SANITIZES with absolutely NO CHEMICALS!!! Perfect! All my floors are clean in MINUTES! For those harder/ more "dried on" spills, you simply keep the mop over it for about 10 seconds and the mess is GONE! No longer will I EVER need to get down on my hands and knees (something VERY IMPORTANT since I have fibromyalgia) to scrub my floors! It comes with two "pads" that once dirty can be thrown in the washing machine and no more NASTY mops w/ buckets of water and cleaning supplies (and STILL I never felt as though my floors were REALLY clean)! I would recommend this product to ANYONE out there looking for a more efficiant/EASY way of cleaning your floors! Works especially well on tiles and since it uses VERY SMALL amounts of water, I have also found it works really well on Pergo (or pergo type) floors without worrying about warping! Honestely... its actually kind of FUN to use and I have NEVER used the words "cleaning" and "fun" together in a sentence! LOL My KIDS even WANT to clean the floors with it... although they need to be monitors since it DOES use steam which could burn if they tried to "touch" it! I would give this product an ENTHUSIATIC TWO THUMBS UP!! From one mommy to another.... this is a DEFINATE MUST for your household!!!
Customer Review: Awesome Return On Investment!!! Summary: 5 Stars
As a continuing fan of Bissell Products, I saw the Bare Floor Steam Cleaner on sale at AMAZON.COM. I was just about to buy my 3rd(in a year) spray-jet type appliance you get for 20-30 in the store, plus buying more pads and more cleaning solution. So I thought, what the heck! From the reviews, it sounds like a good product, and from my experience with Bissell, it probably would be, and if it weren't I'd return it. I also own a Bissell Lift-Off vacuum and a Bissell Pro-heat cleaner-all purchased from Amazon. I got the Cleaner in earlier than expected and had to try it out late one evening. I agree with some of the others--it's slow the first go around - but when you stop and look at all the DIRT that comes up, you won't regret it. After the first time it was much faster. I've washed my pads in the washing machine and dried them-on medium heat and have had no problem. And as another reviewer stated-your floor is squeaky clean! If you are worried about finding replacements, you should take time to register your Bissell appliences online then sign up for their Bissell Rewards program. Once you reach certain levels you get a 5% discount. Their online store for pads, etc., is already usually cheaper than anywhere else. Once you reach platinum level, which I did after my first purchase of the Pro-Heat Steamer, you receive 10% discount + FREE shipping! You also get a free t-shirt and a coffee mug-both nice perks, but I truly enjoy ordering the replacements and formulas, etc., from Bissell - I always receive my order very fast.
The only thing I would love would be to have a wider pad --perhaps have a 'heavy-duty' model to get more coverage done. In South Florida with most of the areas in Terrazo and tile, it can take a while to clean. But I still have to admit, it's well worth it and I don't have to worry about buying those expensive disposable pads -less garbage, and the bottles of cleaner.
Customer Review: Was my floor really that dirty? Summary: 5 Stars
This mop causes disgust to rise in me--in the best possible way. A fantastic mop, it gets dirt off your floors that you had no idea was even there.
Although you may be averse to the idea of cleaning your floor with only hot water, let me reassure you: this mop does a better job than any cleaner I've ever used (and I've tried them all!). As a side note, I also just read somewhere that floor cleaners, especially those with oils for hardwood floors, leave a sticky film that attracts dust and requires that they be cleaned sooner. So not only is this mop good for the environment, but it also requires you to clean your floors less often than you normally need to. In addition to cleaning and disinfecting well (by leaving it on a spot for 15 seconds), it is also easy to maneuver. The swivel head allows you to get in almost anywhere. The actual steaming function is most obvious when going in reverse and it is my impression that the best cleaning is done on the draw-back rather when you go forward (imagine vacuuming and you'll know what I mean).
The only downside is that because you're essentially pushing wet cloth against a hard surface, there is indeed some resistance. Therefore, I would not recommend the mop if you are in a physically deteriorated state (i.e. elderly, late stage of a disease, etc.). Also, if you're in a small room (like my tiny bathroom), :) try to leave the door open because this mop can really steam up the room. Finally, as another reviewer mentioned, the mop pads are kind of a pain to get on--Bissell should definitely make them elasticized!
In sum, this mop is incredible. Buy it and you'll love it. It's fairly small and easy to store, but has more cleaning power than you might imagine!
Customer Review: Why did Bissell stop making this, why? Summary: 5 Stars
I love my Bissell Steam mop. I've had it for about a year now. It has changed my life, y'all.
I took the advice of many offered here and purchased extra cleaning pads. They are a tad tricky to get on, I put the steam mop on the counter so I can get the pad on properly. I think the little cord thing could have been better designed, but the pads have held up well, I wash them on hot and dry them on hot, I haven't noticed any shrinkage.
The steam mop cleans so well, I love that I can blow through my 1800 square feet of hard flooring (tile and sealed Bamboo) with under 2 reservoir tanks. I use distilled water and haven't had any trouble with the filter.
Pros - what's not to love?
- It cleans very well. Even dried baby food, bananas, and other sticky messes come up after letting it steam for a few seconds.
- small and compact, easy to store.
- Uses only water and cleans better than the popular yet difficult to use, Floormate.
- It's very quiet. I can clean after my kids are in bed, the soft steaming noise doesn't disturb anyone. Even down the hall, right outside their bedrooms.
Cons
- I'm tall so it's a little short for me, I find myself hunching over it a bit.
- It does take some effort to push, but it cleans overall more quickly than the powered Floormate.
- Like any machine, it can't get right up close to the walls, so every so often I've got to get down on my hands and knees and wash right up next to the baseboards and cabinets. But it does fit under the cabinets with its low profile head.
I'm so sorry Bissell isn't making this anymore, my mom, mother in law, and friends all want to purchase one.
Customer Review: Great on hardwood, too! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love the Bissel steam mop. I have a 3000 sq. foot house with hardwood through most of the first floor, including the kitchen. Mopping my kitchen and entry floors would take me a good hour and a half. With the Bissel steam mop it takes me about thirty minutes.
I refuse to use the Swiffers because to me they leave a sticky residue that I can't stand, but not the Bissel! Seriously, I love this product. My floors are shiny, with no residue from cleaners. They dry almost instantly. I can give the kitchen a quick mop when dinner is cooking. It's fabulous. I don't have to work out a big block of time to mop, which is hard to do with two small kids and a puppy.
One thing is that you do have to vacuum beforehand, or at least sweep, otherwise you'll get big things of dog hair, dust, etc., stuck on the edge of the pad. Not a big deal to clean up, just yucky.
I had reservations about buying this for hardwood, since there weren't a lot of reviews concerning hardwood, but rest assured, it's great on sealed hardwood. I get compliments on my floors all the time. I have recommended this product to many friends having a hard time keeping up with their floors.
I also have had great results using this on the textured linoleum in the bathrooms. I bought four of the terry pads in addition to the two it came with so I always have plenty on hand. It usually takes one for the entry (12x14ish) and one or two for the kitchen (15x30), depending on how dirty it is.
The only thing I miss about mopping is the smell of the cleaner, but the quickness of the Bissel definitely makes up for that. Now I just light a candle and relax for the extra hour I just saved myself!
