Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam CleanerCustomer Review: Great on hardwood, too! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love the Bissel steam mop. I have a 3000 sq. foot house with hardwood through most of the first floor, including the kitchen. Mopping my kitchen and entry floors would take me a good hour and a half. With the Bissel steam mop it takes me about thirty minutes.
I refuse to use the Swiffers because to me they leave a sticky residue that I can't stand, but not the Bissel! Seriously, I love this product. My floors are shiny, with no residue from cleaners. They dry almost instantly. I can give the kitchen a quick mop when dinner is cooking. It's fabulous. I don't have to work out a big block of time to mop, which is hard to do with two small kids and a puppy.
One thing is that you do have to vacuum beforehand, or at least sweep, otherwise you'll get big things of dog hair, dust, etc., stuck on the edge of the pad. Not a big deal to clean up, just yucky.
I had reservations about buying this for hardwood, since there weren't a lot of reviews concerning hardwood, but rest assured, it's great on sealed hardwood. I get compliments on my floors all the time. I have recommended this product to many friends having a hard time keeping up with their floors.
I also have had great results using this on the textured linoleum in the bathrooms. I bought four of the terry pads in addition to the two it came with so I always have plenty on hand. It usually takes one for the entry (12x14ish) and one or two for the kitchen (15x30), depending on how dirty it is.
The only thing I miss about mopping is the smell of the cleaner, but the quickness of the Bissel definitely makes up for that. Now I just light a candle and relax for the extra hour I just saved myself!
Customer Review: Worth It's Weight in Gold! Summary: 5 Stars
The single most valuable piece of cleaning equipment I've ever owned, this baby has saved me a small fortune in floor care supplies (cleaners, disinfectants, odor removers, etc.), as well as time. No bucket to fill and repeatedly dump, no mopheads to clean and replace. You simply fill the tank with water (distilled is best and saves you from replacing the filter), put on the cotton cover, plug it in (it heats in moments).... and you're good to go. I purchased extra covers (just pop them in your washing machine to clean)so that I could do all the floors at the same time if necessary and would always have a couple of clean ones on hand for "touchups". As I have a horse farm and beaucoup indoor dogs, as well, keeping the floors clean was always a major, time-consuming undertaking; however, with this machine, it's become an extremely simple chore. I honestly think I've reduced my floor cleaning time by about 75%. It cleans beautifully, sanitizes, and removes odors - all without the use of any of those expensive chemicals and cleaners I had been buying in the past. And it's lightweight and easy to handle. I can often even get away with not pre-vacuuming by using a lifting motion and pulling dirt, dog hair, etc. towards me and simply picking up the residue with a paper towel when I'm finished. I haven't tried it on my finished hardwood floors yet, but have used it on laminate wood flooring and ceramic tile and even on the concrete floor in the garage and the decking on my porch -and it's been absolutely fabulous. Definitely worth it at three times the price!
Customer Review: perfect Summary: 5 Stars
I recieved my steam mop on a Friday night, and started using it right away. It was a breeze to put together, and with a full tank of water, it wasn't the least bit heavy (it barely seems like the 10lbs the description says) . With the full tank of water I did a 10x10 bedroom, a 25' long hallway, and a 10x4 front entrance (I also quickly went over the 2 baths). I'll admit, the floor was pretty clean already (I had mopped a week prior), but I sure did pick up a lot of dirt, and was surprised that floor looked cleaner than after I had mopped that last time. The pad was pretty hot when I was done, but after reading other reviews, I expected this. I loosened the string in the back and then pulled the mop head off with my shoe. After that it cooled off very quickly, and I tossed it down the laundry chute. This all went very fast, and between assembly and mopping until the tank was empty, it took less than 45 minutes I'd guess. I refilled the tank, and I went into the basement, which had not been mopped, and used the other pad down there. I managed to get a 20' square done before realizing the mop head was nearly black (the tank was about half empty). My husband came down and was going on and on about how clean our bedroom floor felt on his feet. It wasn't sticky at all, and took barely any time to dry. I really love this product. I would definitly recommend it to others. It was 100x easier to refill the tank than it is to try to replace one of those worn and crumbling mop sponges or lug around a bucket full of water (and then eventually lift it to dump out).
Customer Review: Love, love, LOVE this mop! Summary: 5 Stars
I was a confirmed mop-hater. Those rag thingees are just gross. The sponge thingees are invariably poorly made and need frequent replacement. Hate to use strong chemicals to clean too--who knows how toxic an environment you are making for yourself and your family? So I was conflicted and distraught--hating dirty floors, but not knowing what to do about it. UNTIL I FOUND THIS WONDERFUL MOP! Simply genius--it cleans with good ol' readily available steam. No harsh chemicals needed. It does a great job--you can see the crud come up off the floors. It cleans on many surfaces--does a great job on our hardwood floors as well as the linoleum. I used to hate to mop. Now, I do it religiously--it's kind of fun--well, as fun as moping can be, anyway. I no longer procrastinate it--and my family enjoys cleaner floors (with a toddler running around, eating stuff off the floor--this is important).
I love everything about this mop except for one tiny thing--the cloths that fit over the mop-head are difficult to get on. I struggle with them and often get my hubby to help. Wish Bissell would make the mop heads elastic. But once the mop head cloth is on, you are good to go. When finished, you sling the dirty cloth into the washer.
But otherwise and in spite of that, this mop RULES! We installed the wall-hanger apparatus so the mop stays handy on our utility room wall. Easy to use and easy to put away. You will waste no more money on replacing those cheesy sponge mops that don't work right anyway. Cleaning with steam is THE WAY TO GO!
Customer Review: What did I do without it ?? Summary: 5 Stars
I am 110% satisfied with my Bissell hard floor steam mop! It's quick, easy and the results are fantastic. We own a mid-sized dairy farm and I have to wash my floor every single day to keep it looking half decent and this light weight, hot little mop can keep up!
It heats up within seconds and is ready to go. I have had no problems with pulling or pushing -- just make sure you hold the button in and the mop pad is moist before moving it around.
And the mop pads are easy to change, just don't put them in the dryer. I need two pads for the whole kitchen and it only takes a couple of seconds to change them. I throw them in the washer right away, and just make sure to air dry them. The one pad that *did* end up in the dryer by mistake was a little snug, but stretched out once I used it again.
I also have a Bissell "Flip-It" that I use before the steam mop if the floor is really nasty, the combination of the Flip 1st and then the steam mop makes a huge difference on my old linoleum floor.
One suggestion: Pay the extra 10 bucks for a couple extra pads. It's worth the money to have them handy. I can get my kitchen, bathroom, mud room and more with the 4 pads. And my only suggesstion to Bissell would be to improve the trigger by adding a catch to keep the trigger button in for constant steam, otherwise it's wonderful.
Goodbye mop, bucket and other assorted gadgets -- if you want to save time and money... get this product!
