Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam CleanerCustomer Review: Great for Bad Knees! Summary: 5 Stars
Response to Critics - First - If you have old white grout that has turned black get real, no cleaner will make old grout white again. You have to seal grout if you want it to stay the same color and you NEVER put white grout down anywhere. It won't stay white no matter what you do! Second - Yes the cotton heads can shrink after washing. Don't dry them in the dryer. They won't shrink as much and they will last longer. OK - I'm not as young as I used to be. That's why I tried this product. It does everything Bissell advertises, and I no longer have to get down on my knees to scrap up a dried spot of ketchup on the kitchen linoleum floor. Just place the head over the spot and let it steam for at least ten seconds and the spot wipes away easily. It's also great for older floors that are hard to clean. While it doean't make them spotless and shiny, it does clean them very well. I just replaced my kitchen linoleum with ceramic tile. It cleans my kitchen ceramics just as well as the bathroom ceramic floors. You can spray a little glass cleaner like Windex on your floor if you want absolutely NO streaks. The mop leaves a few streaks but don't add chemicals to the water container. Better to spray it on the floor directly!
Customer Review: Easy and Really Works Summary: 5 Stars
UPS dropped off the package and I was mopping my white, vinyl floor in 10 minutes. I am short on time with special needs children who can really track in on a floor. I could not keep up with it using a sponge mop and pail, and always needed a scrub brush. This steam mop works really great and it is quick, non messy, and easy to use. It is a little effort to push, but this helps clean the floor, you adjust to it very quickly. I definitely pushed and scrubbed harder with a normal mop. My son had scotch tape stuck on the floor and the steam loosened and removed it. The cotton head scrubs just like a towel in your hand and the swivel head makes it easy to get in anywhere. It is not that big and stores away easily. Virtually no clean up after it other than removing the cotton mop cover and throwing it in the washer. The instructions say not to add any cleaner to the water and I didn't, but for a walkway where the finish is even getting worn, and it gets dirtier, I put a little bit of Bissell Hard Floor Cleaner on the floor and just let the mop push it around like you would with a normal mop. My floor was clean and shiny and sanitized in much less time. The floor also dried faster since it doesn't get that wet.
Customer Review: Bissell Steam Mop Summary: 5 Stars
I am 58 years old and a hard core "wash on your hands & knees" person. I have tried EVERY mop that's come along and have always gone back to hand washing. I have tile floors. My daughter loaned me her recently acquired "Bissell Steam Vac" to try. I did the floor in the evening, wanting to pick a time when the noise wouldn't bother my husband. THERE WAS NO NOISE!The time was comparable to hand washing, but I needed only water, easy. I used no cleaning product, just the water. No water to dump or rags to wash or hands smelling like cleaning solution, no sore knees. Only using water, my floors seemed to shine. A little wipe around the edges and "wala", done. No smears, no dull spots, no waiting for the floor to dry as it dried almost instantly. But, the most amazing thing happened when daylight hit. My floors absolutely shine! They seem finished, with a smooth silky feel. CLEAN! Not a streak anywhere. In 8 years, including when we bought the place, my floor has NEVER looked like this. I am so impressed!!! Silly, but I can't stop looking at it. I just have to tell everyone, this is one product that will make your day!!! I can't wait for Christmas. I need my own vac NOW!
Customer Review: Got my Grungy Floor Spotless Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE this mop. I have a huge kitchen with the floor covered in oatmeal colored linoleum. You know that stuff designed to hide dirt except it hides dirt by always looking dirty. YUCK. Add in a 2 year old who thinks it's super fun to squeeze juice boxes and you have one disgusting floor even seconds after it's been WetJetted or mopped or scrubbed on my hands and knees. The Bissell SteamMop just cut right through the dirt and really cleaned my floor. And, let me tell you, that floor was filthy. We are still cleaning up from Hurricane Isabel and every day mud and grass got tracked in onto the floor. After a quick sweep to get the big chunks up both my husband and I took it for a spin. After a few minutes it is harder to move around but it's not the weight of the machine that causes this (as some reviewers implied) rather the friction caused by the wet terry cloth pad.
This product really is worth the money you pay for it. I had to do the floor twice but only because it was so dirty to begin with (Hurricanes really do cause a BIG mess) so I know that the weekly use it will get will be more than enough to keep the floor clean and looking nice. Something I thought was impossible with that ugly linoleum.
Customer Review: Kid tested-mother approved! Summary: 5 Stars
STILL going strong in 2011! This mop is amazing! I have replaced the mop head covers (the new ones fit much better) yearly and, of course, the filters once or twice per year. What a great mop!
Updated in 2008 to add--my mop is still going strong--still recommended!
From 2003:
This mop is great! A conventional mop and bucket is no comparison. It is fun to use and does a great job at cleaning my vinyl flooring. I had abandoned the old standard sponge mop and had been down on my hands and knees with a rag to get my floor spotlessly clean like I like it. NO MORE! I feel free at last! Now, my baby can crawl on the floor without me worrying about what she is getting on herself.
My three boys (14, 10, 8) tried it, too, so although it is heavier than a regular sponge mop, it is managable. The swivel head is wonderful--I even mopped between the wall and the washing machine in my laundry room--about a 7 inch space.
It is easy to assemble (my 8-year-old and I did it in 2 minutes). You just need a philips head screwdriver. If you want to hang it on the wall with the included hook, you will need a drill, and maybe some wall anchors.
