Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright VacuumCustomer Review: Good price without sacrificing quality Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased a similar model of this vacuum, which included an extra set of filters but no dirt detection feature, at Sam's Club for $82.29. I have the dirt detection feature on another vacuum, and while it is nice, I don't this it is worth the extra money. It will tell you that entryways and high traffic areas are extra dirty.
To assemble, the handle must be slipped into the designated slots and is afixed to the base with one screw. This takes about 1 minute.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of suction and by how well it worked on both carpets and bare floors. I've had other vacuums that scattered as much sand on bare floors as they managed to pick up. I also appreciated some features that are usually missing from economy machines such as the quick release cord. I did encounter problems with vacuuming throw rugs. The vacuum has a voracious appetite and it is nearly impossible to vacuum the rugs without damage. Adjusting the machine to the highest height did not resolve the problem and a lower speed is not an option.
As noted in the product description, the flexible hose is reinforced with wire. While the wire makes the hose more durable it also makes it heavier and more cumbersome to use. The hose is attached (with a nice swivel capacity) to a 12+ inch plastic extention wand with a handle. While the user does not have to bend over very far to insert the wand into the machine, the flexible/stretch part of the hose is shorter than what I am used to. I kept tipping the machine over when using the tools. I would have appreciated another extention wand in addition to the one that comes with the machine. The duster and upolstry tools are on the small side.
The crevice tool is stored inside of the extention wand. When I was using the extention wand with another tool, there was no way to store the crevice tool on-board.
One odd thing did happen when using the machine. When I tried vacuuming a low pile rug in my entry, the vacuum would not move until I adjusted the height to near the highest setting. I've never encountered such a problem before.
The turbo brush is not a particularly effective tool. I think the suction makes it spin, so just a little bit of pressure makes it stop spinning. It is a poor substitute for cleaning steps with the bottom beater brush.
I give this vacuum 5 stars because of its powerful suction and tremendous value as compared to its competition. If you're not on a budget, you may want to consider a machine with more tools, a longer hose and a lower speed option. I have a large 3 level house with a vacuum on every floor---an expensive Hoover, a Eureka and this Bissel. The Bissel will now be my vacuum of choice.
Customer Review: disgusted... and amazed! Summary: 5 Stars
That's all I have to say about this new vaccum... other then I LOVE IT and CLEANING IS FUN NOW! I had a dirt devil featherlite... what a joke, sure I thought it was a decent vaccum, until I got this monster <evil grin>. I had a feeling it wasn't cleaning very well so I begged my husband for a new vaccum (sad when you get excited over a new vaccum isn't it ladies LOL) anyways I picked out this model and I'm so thrilled with it.
Disgusted, and yet amazed is what you'll be after using it just once. You will be shocked at what it gets out of your rugs, and actually have fun trying to find new spaces to vaccum so you can see the red light go on (means it's sucking up dirt) and then when you look into the chamber, OMG what is all that powdery fine DIRT eewwww. It's awesome that's all there is to it (again I can't believe I'm giddy over a vaccum). The attachement with the spinner is especially wonderful for stairs & furniture!
Now that I have this I'm actually considering getting a puppy, if for no other reason then I'd have more dirt & hair to suck up!
Get it, you will not be disappointed!
**UPDATE AFTER USING IT FOR OVER A YEAR**
I purchased this in December of '04 here on amazon, I was immediately impressed with what it could pick up and how wonderfully it worked... over a year later and it still works excellently, never a single broken belt. However it's a dirty mess to empty the very small collection bin, and mine has recently started really getting clogged up with dust/dirt inside. It still sucked up everything but I wasn't happy that I was having to get all dirty when it was time to empty it.
I was coveting the Dyson since I first saw them, but at $500 it wasn't happening... until this week, my husband got a bonus and said I could buy one since I was complaining about this vacuum again. I ran out and got a Dyson, set it up... vacuumed and was shocked to see it picked up LESS then my Bissell. Granted the Dyson is a dream to empty, but I can't justify $500 just to keep from getting a bit of dust on my hands. The Dyson is going back and I'm going to the closet to give my trusty old dusty Bissell a big hug!
Customer Review: This is the BEST VACUUM EVER Summary: 5 Stars
Personally, I bought this vacuum from Best Buy about a year ago and it was about $150 and it is the BEST VACUUM I EVER BOUGHT. It has red/green lights, if the light is red it means your carpet is dirty and keep vacuuming until it turns green, you will be amazed what this pulls out of your carpet. I had just vacuumed a week before with my old vacuum before buying this one and my carpets looked clean, but when I brought this home I had to empty the canister FOR EACH ROOM I vacuumed, that is how much dirt & dust was on the bottom of my carpets that my old vacuum never pulled out. Another plus is even though this has some filters which can be expensive to replace, I have not had to replace any yet, I just clean them eveyr few months and my carpets have NEVER BEEN CLEANER. NOw here is the BUT....I bought this same vacuum from Amazon as a gift for my friend (housewarming present) since it was under $100 and I already have one and knew it was great. The first week she had hers, the belt snapped. I was very upset since it was a gift and that is very embarassing that it was obviously defective but I contacted Amazon about the problem and they promptly sent her out a new one so even though her first one was defective, they made good on getting her a new one and she too is AMAZED and how well this vacuum works. Save your money, don't bother buying those expensive Dysons and other vacuums, this will be your best investment ever, I love mine so much when I first got it I felt like a walking infomercial, I would rave to everyone about it, I have even brought it to friend's houses and had them vacuum their carpets with their one device and then let me use mine just to show them how much dirt is left behind with other vacuums, it also has attachments which work well, my only little complaint is the brush attachment, I think it could work better than it does, luckily I don't use it much, however my friend says her's works great for her mattress, draperies, etc...so maybe I'm jsut using mine wrong. Definitely buy this vacuum from Amazon since the price is cheaper than what I paid at Best Buy and if you have a problem with it, they have an EXCELLENT return policy.
Customer Review: The best vacuum I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I've never felt the need to write a review before but this vacuum deserves my praise. Let me start by saying that vacuuming is one job I truly hate to do, and usually I make my husband do it but we were fighting over who got to vacuum with this machine. I have owned many vacuums in the 35 years I've been married including a Kirby and an Oreck and this little gem out vacuums them all, and makes vacuuming almost fun. It's light-weight, easy to manuever, has a light so you can really see what you are vacuuming, vacuums a wide area and has an extra long cord. I love the red/green indicator light that tells you if the area is clean yet and the amount of stuff this vacuum pulled out of my carpet was astonishing. Our house was new a year ago and because of some problems our ceiling had to be replaced after we moved in. I was alway concerned that the drywall debri and dust was stuck in the carpet---we even had the carpets professionally cleaned and were assured that all of that was removed but the Bissell 3495 Cleanview PowerTrak removed alot of what was obviously drywall debri and had been stuck deep in our carpet. Finally I feel like my carpets are clean. We have two dogs and even though my carpets have been vacuumed regularly I was amazed at the amount of dog hair it removed. I had to empty the bin 6 or 7 times during my first go-around of the house. That is another thing I like---the dirt cup is easily accessible and very easy to empty.
The power brush accessory is also great for doing the stairs and the furniture. It is stored right on the unit and is easy to get to and easy to use.
There isn't one thing I don't like about this vacuum including the price. It's suggested retail price is $159.99 and it is well worth that but Amazon.com was selling it for $129.99. They were also giving free shipping and a $25 off promotion so the machine ended up costing me less than $105.00 What a deal!!!
I've only had the vacuum for a week but at this point I would highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Live in filth no more! Summary: 5 Stars
About a year ago, we purchased a Hoover Windtunnel because we thought it was the best out there at the time. It was SO loud, the kids went running every time we turned it on. The attachments fell off and the cord got in the way of the attachments, and the filter kept getting clogged up, having to be washed and dried before you could attempt to vacuum again. Finally, it died yesterday and we bought this Bissell.
We had *just* vacuumed yesterday, but we of course wanted to try out the new one. In just a 3'x3' square of carpet, we sucked up about 2" of DIRT and 2 more of lint and fluff. We were *shocked*.
The next thing we noticed was the cool red light/green light feature. It will actually tell you when you've sucked all the dirt and hair up when the light changes from red to green. It took a long time to turn in some parts of our carpet but eventually, we got the green light.
After finishing our small living room (probably about 9'x9') we had at least *4 INCHES* of dirt and more lint and hair. We just stared at the cup not believing that was in our carpets.
We also loved how quiet it was. Compared to the Hoover, it's heaven. We can actually still talk to each other, hear the phone ringing or someone knocking on the door, yet we haven't exchanged the quiet for lack of power or suction. It is simply amazing!
Another great feature is the powered attachment to do your couches and drapes with a rotating brush attached to the hose. In addition, the cord wraps around the side, so it doesn't interfere with the onboard attachments and the hose from the base to the dirt cup is clear, so if anything gets clogged, you can see it right away.
I cannot say enough about this vacuum. Why pay $300+ for a vacuum that wasn't even rated that highly in Consumer Reports (the Dyson) when you can get this for half that, and be REALLY clean??!!
