Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 37604 Lift-Off Revolution Pet Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Detachable Canister, SilverCustomer Review: Very impressed... Summary: 5 Stars
I really like this vacuum. We own a 10-year-old Hoover Boss Upright and a 5-year-old Kenmore Canister that claimed to have a "special" staircase brush. The upright was good when we lived in a smaller apartment, but too heavy and cumbersome when we moved to a house with two carpeted staircases. So we decided to get a canister vacuum. The Kenmore was much lighter but the "special" brush that was supposed to make vacuuming staircases easier never worked and only clogged with hair and carpet fuzz from day one. So I stopped using that tool. We have also had to fix the Kenmore three times in the five years we've had it. In addition to the large vacuums, we have two Roomba vacuums with the pet hair brush and they are a major pain to clean, plus they seem to fixate on areas that don't need to be cleaned as much, like under the couch, and run out of battery power before they get to areas that need it. They are cool the first few times you use them, but that coolness factor does not last.
Our biggest problem is pet hair. We have a black and white Border Collie with cream colored carpets in the majority of our house and a dark carpet in our bedroom. She has both long and short hair and she sheds a lot, so you can imagine the hair that gets ground into our carpets. We love her very much and just put up with the hair assuming that the vacuums we have will just have to do. But now we have a new baby who will be crawling soon and I cringe at the thought of his toys and his wet fingers being full of dog hair as he puts them into his mouth. I decided it was time to look again for a vacuum that will actually pick up the dog hair and make vacuuming our two full staircases a lot easier.
We saw the Bissell at both Target and Kohl's and I checked Amazon because I knew their prices were always better. It had decent reviews and was indeed cheaper. We own a Bissell spot cleaner that has been great, so we went back to Kohl's and compared the Bissell Lift-Off to the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. This one was much lighter and easier to maneuver. We also liked the idea of the removable canister. So we decided to purchase it from Amazon. I was very impressed. With both of our older vacuums, including the Roombas, you could finish vacuuming and then run your socked foot across the carpet and it would still be full of hair. After trying out the Bissell there was dramatically less hair coming up onto our socks. I also really love the removable canister for doing the stairs and the "special" pet hair brush actually works! It has good suction and you have to push on it pretty hard to cause the brush to stop spinning. My back is much happier using the extension tool with the pet hair brush on the stairs. It also picks up well on the floors in our kitchen. It doesn't blow the crumbs all around like all our other vacuums, it actually sucks them up! Go figure! The price for this one was great. I've read many reviews and talked to pet owners who have the Dyson and it sounds like none of them were very happy with it. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a decent vacuum! No vacuum is perfect if you own a pet that sheds a lot, but this one is pretty good. The only complaint I have is that it would be nice if the hose coming off the canister was a little longer. I'm hoping that as I use it, it will stretch out more and become less tight. The filter above the dirt cup is easy enough to remove, but it is a little messy because of the fine dust. I have not had any loss in suction, so in the month and a half we have owned this, I have not yet had the need to remove and clean it. A few people have complained that bagless vacuums are messier, but it is no more messy than changing the bags in both our Hoover and our Kenmore. I also like the feature that the main brush stops moving when you use the hose attachment and when the handle is fully upright. Our Hoover did not do that and we would end up smelling burning rubber with a dirt mark on our carpet.
The Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Bagless Upright is a great buy. If you have pets it's an extremely good buy. I highly recommend this vacuum.
