Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner, 1400-7Customer Review: Little Green is HUGE! Summary: 5 Stars
lemme start off by saying i originally bought the pet version (for about $20 more) but after reading reviews everywhere about how the heating element tends to blow out pretty soon, i decided to buy this version instead for about $69 @ walmart- definitely NO REGRETS!
bought it to clean up dog 'messes' and it works wonders! but just so that everyone is clear...it's not a shop vac! so when there was a mess, i actually cleaned it relatively well first BEFORE i used the little green on it and it took away ANY traces of stains/ smell/ discoloration...EVERYTHING. so i guess as a stain/ spot remover it works perfect! i found a few salt spots (normally the black marks on your carpet in heavy traffic areas- left from your shoes after coming in from the snow) and it took them right out!
so here's a quick breakdown that i hope helps make up your mind if you're on the fence:
PROS:
- LIGHT and easy to carry around (i think it's only about 10 pounds?) and the hose makes cleaning that much easier
- POWERFUL enough to clean thicker carpets too. again, i used it as a stain remover rather than a shop vac- so a pre-cleaning of the area prior to using the little green definitely helps results
- IDEAL SPOT REMOVER for things like pet messes, random 'phantom' spots on your carpet, juice spills, etc.
-
CONS:
- TIME to MAINTAIN/ CLEAN up the little green itself- can be a little cumbersome. i actually found myself cleaning the parts for about 10 minutes after only spending about 3 cleaning up the mess off the carpet with the little green...so it's not much of a time saver, but i'd rather spend more time cleaning up the parts to ensure that it lasts me longer!
- SPRAY is really odd. it's really wide and tends to kinda miss the area that it's meant to clean? takes some getting used to, but can be a little 'surprising' the first few times
as a final note i will say that this will NOT replace an upright carpet steam cleaner so DON'T try and use it to clean an entire room- you will most likely be disappointed.
it's a PERFECT stain/ spot remover INSTEAD of bringing out that heavy, clunky steamer in the event that your pet/ child/ drunk roomie has an accident. i'd still give it 5 stars only coz i'm willing to overlook how long it takes to clean it IF it does a good job removing the stains...and it does!
Customer Review: It does exactly what it was designed to Summary: 5 Stars
So my husband and I were looking for a compact carpet cleaner to take out some black spots that were showing on our apartment's carpet. Most compact cleaners on here have less than stellar reviews but the Bissell Little Green Deep Cleaner had the most promising reviews. So we picked one up at a local store and brought it home and tried it out. As the package would imply the thing is 99% assembled, all you do is attach two hose holders and fill the tank up and go. The nozzle does spray wide if you hold it away from the carpet but if you scrub the carpet as you dispense the solution it barely sprays wider than the nozzle. Despite what people have said here, I actually find the wide spray to be sort of handy. Unless you are trying to remove a toothpick sized stain, it makes things go a little bit quicker. Dispense the solution over a moderately sized area, scrub, and go over it a few times to suck up the water.
Which brings me to my next problem with the negative reviews here. If I placed a little pressure on the head of the nozzle, you could see it was sucking up a LOT of water. I've used full sized carpet cleaners and even those you need to put pressure on to REALLY get all the water out. If you put a little elbow grease in to it, it works wonders with the type of stains it was designed to take care of. If you pretend it is a magic wand that will wish away all your stains, you might be a little disappointed.
Basically take all of these negative reviews with a grain of salt. The solution dispenser worked as I would have expected it to. If you wave it around 6 inches over the carpet, yeah it sprays wide. Who knew? If you put a little elbow grease into the nozzle it sucks up more liquid than I would have expected it to. It isn't a genie in a bottle, you actually have to put a little work into it. And the result is a $70 compact cleaner that does a pretty darn good job.
Customer Review: Handy For Spot Cleaning Summary: 5 Stars
We got this little gem to help clean up after a precocious little puppy who has yet to get the hang of the house-training program. Having her 100% trained is the best idea, obviously. In the mean time, until she gets it down, this small, portable machine is perfect for spot-cleaning, even when more than once a day.
This machine also works very nicely on upholstery in the home, automobile, motorhome etc. Just about any color-fast fabric. It cleans well, while remaining gentle and non-destructive to the fabric.
It is portable, light-weight, easy to fill, easy to use and easy to clean. The integrated cleaning brush is durable and looks to last a long time. There is no motor for the brush. It works like any scrub brush; back and forth by hand, in between spray applications and vacuumn removal. The narrow vacuumn nozzle, also integrated into the all-in-one cleaning head, stays on throughout the process, but only sucks up the dirty solution when cleaning is complete and the cleaning head is tilted up to place the collection nozzle down onto the affected area. With a few passes the cleaned area is indeed very clean, and practically dry. The whole process works very well, and very efficiently.
Removable tanks for new solution and dirty clean-up water pop on and off easily for re-filling, rinsing and cleaning. The seals seem to do a good job of preventing leaks. We use it with Bissel Pet Odor and Stain Cleaning solution, (available for a competitive price on Amazon), but it will work with any carpet cleaning solution made for "Steam Extraction" or hot water carpet cleaning spray and vacuumn machines.
The price is right, and Amazon had it to us very quickly, sealed in the original packaging with excellent directions. I can recommend this machine to anyone looking for a low-maintenance spot cleaner for carpets or upholstery.
Customer Review: Great for quick Stain Removal Summary: 5 Stars
This product has been very handy for spot removal and even great for cleaning furniture. The first time I bought it I took it out and cleaned a Las-Z-Boy that had been sitting for 4 years in dust and red dirt. I didn't think it would come out. I had to clean it twice, but it came absolutely clean!! It took one tank to clean it, but it was well worth it. It was easier to use then the big bulky cleaners and you can move into small spots that large handles can't fit. I have also found that this is great for "emergency" spills. I have two little ones that spill things all the time. Today for instance, my daughter knocked over my Big Red can (For those of you not in the south....this is REALLY Red) I didn't find it until several hours later. I grabbed my little green and plugged it in. I immediately sucked up all the soda with just two passes and then I saw the horrible red stain. However, once I started using the cleaner scrubbing it in (with the built-in brush) It came out clean! No stains whatsoever! I was very impressed. Big Red is notorious for running carpet/furniture. One suggestion is to buy the orange solution. It has a great smell and is good for smelly stains and seems to clean better. Also, use warm/hot water when filling because it is better with getting deep-in dirt from sticky stains. I have had this baby for 2 years now and it cleans as well today as it did yesterday! P.S. I purposely leave cleaning solution in it when I put it away. It makes it convenient for those "emergencies" and when you don't have time for filling, etc.
Customer Review: Great for families with small children and pets!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this at a big box store a few weeks back, just because we were in the mood to shop for spring cleaning stuff. We got it for an excellent price. We thought it would come in handy to clean the stairs and also to clean the area rug under our kitchen table (we have toddlers).
Little did we know that our male cat would start having significant trouble finding his litter box almost immediately after we bought it. (Yes, he's been to the vet.) So we find ourselves using this little machine at least 4 times a day while we help our cat recover from his cystitis and find his way back to the litter box. IT REALLY PERFORMS!!!
I've even used just plain hot water (on non-urine stains). The suction on this machine is incredible. I love that both the hose and the cord are super long. And the body of the machine is just the right size to sit perfectly perched on the standard stair. And, I have to say, it's downright fun to use!! (Noisy, I'll admit that much.)
We have now found ourselves inventing environmentally and kid-friendly cleaning solutions, since we are going thru so much of it. We fill a spray bottle diluted with cleanser and water and use that instead of the fresh water tank, sometimes. It works just as well.
Couldn't be happier - now, if only our dear Coconut would stop piddling on the carpet....
