Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner, 1400-7

Customer Review: Great little machine
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm thrilled with this product. It does exactly what I need it to do: clean my carpets and not take up space in my small apartment in between uses.

I got this machine a few months ago and use it not only to spot clean but to clean my entire apartment. Whole-house cleaning isn't particularly quick with this thing, because of the small head, and the fact that you have to do it on your hands and knees. But you also don't have to move all the furniture as you would have to do with an bulky upright machine. It's little head works in tight corners, around table legs, under bookcases, etc.

I do agree the machine goes through bottles of solution rather quickly. My resolution: use the cleaning solution for pretreating stains, then use just plain steam for general cleaning. I also found it easier to push the suction head AWAY from me when suctioning off the water, rather than pulling toward me. Requires less muscle strength, I found. Making a second pass over the area will also remove more water if you want the carpets to dry faster. The suction head has a clear channel so you can see how much water is being pulled out of your carpet and whether or not you need to go over it again.

Customer Review: A great little machine
Summary: 5 Stars

With six cats in the house, there's sometimes a little problem of pet odor, whether from accidents, upchucks, or one of the cats deciding that a folded towel on the couch is a great litter box substitute. We needed an upholstery cleaner and carpet spot cleaner. After some looking around, I decided to try the Little Green machine.

The instructions were easy to follow, and the machine is simple to use. Cleaning solution goes in one tank. The hose has a scrubber head with a spray trigger that sprays the solution, then suctions the solution out of the fabric. The used solution is drawn out of the upholstery and goes into the second tank, which is easy to empty and rinse.

The spray device works best for surface cleaning. For the kind of deep cleaning I needed on the couch, I used a cloth and a bucket of vinegar and water to saturate the upholstery, then used the Little Green machine as a wet vac to suction the solution back up. Several applications did the trick.

The small nozzle makes the LIttle Green machine useful for furniture and for spot-cleaning carpets. It's not a substitute for a larger steam cleaner for cleaning an entire carpet.

Customer Review: Delighted!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I often rely on customer product reviews for many items that I purchase so I wanted to leave feedback on this item because I am so happy with it. I have cats that often leave spots on the carpet (rarely the bare floor!). Whenever I use a bottled carpet cleaner it seems the spot will come up but then some time later a dark discoloration will appear. I recently had my carpets professionally cleaned which did remove all the dark spots. I was told that these spots were from detergent residue left after spot cleaning that would then attract dirt. The cleaning company actually recommended the Bissell machine. It works so well. I do leave it set up with water and cleaning solution as the instructions say that you can so that it is ready to go. I can clean a spot and rinse the machine out in minutes. Since I leave it set up I'm using cool water and it still cleans well. Some customers said that the sprayer was too wide but I find it's fine if you angle it down closer to the carpet. Doesn't overspray that way. I was ready to rip out my carpeting until having it professionally cleaned and now the Bissell machine will help me keep it that way. I highly recommend this machine.

Customer Review: Wonderful All-Purpose Cleaner
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this cleaner as an alternative to paying $250 to have my furniture cleaned. I thought it was a good buy since I can use it again and again, and have been really pleased with it. It is easy to put together, and I have used it so far to clean all my couches and chairs, some grease-stained car upholstery, a couple of puppy accidents, and a very musty-smelling Turkish rug. It cleans well and is relatively easy to use, and both the Little Green and Pet formulas smell fresh but not cloying. The wide spray issue is kind of irritating at first, but after a few minutes of practice you learn not to fully depress the spray button so that only small bursts of spray come out.

Post-cleaning cleanup is also relatively easy. You can just rinse out the tanks with some hot water (though definitely hold the cleaner over a sink before removing either tank, just in case). I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to have a good spot-cleaner on hand.

Customer Review: Extremely effective for small areas
Summary: 5 Stars

For a whole carpet cleaning, you need a different beast. But for small areas, I even removed stains that the professionals couldn't lift. Some reviewers have complained of leaks as well as odors building up. I think both of these can be completely avoided with a bit of care in cleaning up the machine after you use it. It is important to bring it to the sink or tub and vacuum up some clean water to rinse the hose and nozzle, then lift the nozzle high to let as much water as possible get sucked into the tank. Next, remove the tank and rinse it thoroughly from the top and bottom, partially filling and shaking while covering the top. There is a removable black rubber insert at the bottom that can be removed and rinsed separately. Let everything dry thoroughly before you put the tank back on the cleaner. That's all the maintenance that it takes to keep it leak- and odor-free. Naturally, if you leave it dirty and moist, bacteria will take over.
