Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200ACustomer Review: Great interface Summary: 5 Stars
5 months into puppy ownership, the pads weren't filling up quite as rapidly as they once did and an area rug was starting to take on an ominous odor.... hmm.
Humane unwrapping experience. No shrink wrap, scissor-defying plastic encasing, industrial-strength glue/staples. A trial size of the formula and OxyGen were helpfully embedded into the Styrofoam bed with a coupon for reinforcements. This will tide you over for about 3 "set in" spots, but you'll probably want to stock up because the Spotbot is so easy to use, you'll quickly find more than a couple applications for it to tackle.
Spotbot is designed to be left unattended, but I found myself transfixed by it the first couple cycles. Bissell's ingenious use of clear plastic components achieves an experience similar to the board game Mouse Trap and a drive through car wash. Watch the cartridge of water and cleaning solution leisurely sluice its way around the clear hose wrapped around the unit. Watch the rotary bristles scrub it into the effected area. Watch the suction spew it into the disposal bin in a satisfyingly bracken color. In less than 5 minutes, the process is complete with no discernible wet spots.
OK, Spot has a couple limitations... It is pretty noisy. My puppy leaves the room while it works its magic. Living in an apartment complex, I try to shut the windows and abstain from using it in the middle of the night (unless there is a legitimate emergency). Its circular cleaning footprint is enough to tackle a targeted mess, but has its limitations. I'm not confident the hose application does as thorough of a job for straight carpet edges (plus babysitting it would be a hassle). Periodically, I'll hire a professional service for a holistic clean with special attention to the areas Spot can't reach.
That said, I'll save the big guns until puppy's housebreaking is less "spotty." In the intervening months, this tool is a life saver. With confidence I can reverse damage done outside my supervision, this product allowed me to liberate the pup from the inhospitable confines of the bathroom "kennel" and give her run of the house while I'm on errands. It's also allowed me to get past the guilt and embarrassment of living in puppy-generated squalor and allow guests over (who inevitably want to roll around roughhousing with the puppy on the carpet which is my SpotBot's second home).
Customer Review: Amazing little machine! Totally worth the price! Summary: 5 Stars
Hands down, this is probably one of the best small appliances I've ever purchased. We have a full-size steam cleaner but it's big and bulky and a pain to pull out for one little stain here or there. Plus it's hard on my back. But this little wonder called the Spot Bot is absolutely perfect for our needs.
It's light enough for me to pack around the house and it does an admirable job cleaning up. My only complaint about it is that when it's left to its own devices, it doesn't extract enough of the water out of the carpet, but it's no big deal to just whip out the hose and little wand attachment and basically squeegee the rest out. Dries in a flash that way and it gets out the circular scrub spot!
We just moved into a new home with nearly white carpet and with 4 stressed-out cats, we've had our share of "Butt Scootin' Boogie" spots and hairball messes and the like. Even a couple of pee spots. But the Spot Bot got right to work and the floors look perfect! I would heartily recommend putting the cleaner mix in a spray bottle and putting that directly on the spot and then just use clean water in the tank. That way you don't get any of the residue left over that can attract more dirt. Plus, you use a lot less of the cleaner too.
If you have pets and carpet, you NEED this tool! It's been a lifesaver in our home so far! We've only had it for 4 days and I've used it on probably 25 spots already. Great stuff! Quick and easy.

I'm absolutely SOLD on this device! This little baby has logged some serious hours in our house so far and it's still going strong. Just be sure to clean the brush every now and again and rinse the waste tank to get rid of the carpet fuzz that can accumulate. And it's DEFINITELY best to use your cleaner in a separate spray bottle. We've actually set up a system where we have a squeezable condiment bottle filled with an oxygenated bleach mix (like Oxy-Fresh or the like) for any staining and then a spray bottle with the diluted rug cleaning solution. This allows you to really concentrate the cleaner right on the spot without messing with the rest of the carpet. Then just plop the SpotBot right on there and let 'er rip! Works great for us!
Customer Review: Saved my Marriage and my Pet's life!!! Summary: 5 Stars
So if you are even looking at this product just buy it, seriously it's worth every penny.
I have had this machine for 9 months and let me tell you every time I have to clean up a mess on the carpet I thank my lucky stars I have this in my house. We got a little 6 weeks old black lab back in October and he was so young and had stomach issues. The whole reason my husband bought this is because our puppy was walking up the stairs and had diarrhea on our carpet and I about died...how do you clean something up like that without completely rubbing it into the carpet (I'm the worst about doing that). So ever since we purchased the SpotBot my life has been a lot easier.
I do have a story about my puppy escaping from his crate one day while we were at work and he went to the bathroom on our carpet about 12 times and my husband left it all for me to clean up when I got home (because I was the one who didn't get both latches shut) At that point if I was not the proud owner of the SpotBot Pet I would have come home with divorce papers the next day.
I have read people saying it leaks, the only leaking issues I have had is when you use the hand held tool( I only use the hand held) when you take the brush attachment off some water that is left in the hose does leak out but not during cleaning.
TIP: When emptying the dirty water container lift straight up and then dump it in the sink, I have dumped it on the carpet a few times because it looks like there is a flap closing it off.
I have only used the big part where you turn it on and walk away once. This is because I don't want circle marks on my carpet and when I need to clean a spot it's usually small and quick.
I also wanted to list some of the ways the SpotBot can be used:
* To clean up pet stains
* Kids/dogs peeing the bed
* Boat carpet
* Couch stains
* Car Upholstery
* pretty much anything with a cloth covering
Everyone hates to have to clean up messes on carpets and other upholstery but every time I have to I am so glad I have this SpotBot and would have paid so much more money if I knew it was going to be so handy and helpful on a day to day basis. BUY IT!!!!!
Customer Review: Rescued our carpet Summary: 5 Stars
We adopted a troubled dog from a rescue program earlier this year. The little guy had been pretty badly abused and while he's making great strides he continues to engage in "submissive urination." You can imagine the effect that this had on the carpet in our home. The constant scrubbing was a real pain in the neck. A very expensive carpet cleaning from one of those companies touting their "dead sea salts" really didn't work very well at all, and even if it had we couldn't keep spending that kind of money. This product rescued our carpet from the "rescued" dog.
When one of my wife's co-workers (who serves as a foster person for rescue dogs and has several in her home at any given time) recommended a spot bot to her I was skeptical. My wife's a clean freak and is constantly bringing home products like this. We have nearly every kind of floor or carpet device known to man, including two other Bissels that we haven't been thrilled with. But I was desperate enough to give it a try and grabbed one off of Amazon. It turned out to be one of the best purchases ever. To my amazement, the thing actually works really well. It's extremely simple to use . . . just fill the tank, drop it on the accident spot, plug it in, and decide whether you want a surface or a deep clean. You hit the button and walk away. When it's done you're left with a damp circular impression on the carpet as the only evidence of the accident. The beep it makes when finished is a bit annoying, but it reminds us to pick it up and put it away so the damp spot can air out and dry.
As I said, we have two other Bissell's - a small hose type portable unit that doesn't work all that well (or at all, really), and a much larger, more expensive unit that does a so-so job and is a pain in the neck to use and an even bigger pain to take apart and clean afterward. The spot bot does a much (Much!) better job than either of those. When it finishes there is no sign of soiling and no residual odor. We've used it on more conventional jobs like tracked in mud, etc., and it has not disappointed.
We've had it a few months now. If it holds up over time this will likely qualify as the best purchase of this kind we've ever made.
Customer Review: saved my car upholstery! Summary: 5 Stars
In a hurry to get my dog to her vet appointment on time yesterday, I put her right in the back seat of my car, skipping my usual step of putting down a blanket. Halfway there, I caught a whiff of a horrible, horrible smell and knew what had happened before I even turned around. Even the smell could not prepare me for what I saw when I DID turn around.
It looked like my dog had not pooped for a week, and the result was smeared all over my light beige cloth seats. Not firm stools, not a couple of little piles ... it was a disaster.
I cleaned up as much as I could at the vet's office with paper towels, left my dog there for her procedure, and went straight to an auto detailer. They seemed amused that I would even suggest they take on such a task.
Next stop, my local big-box store to figure out what I could buy to clean this up as well as I could. I had already called my husband crying because I was going to have to get my car reupholstered. I just wanted to get it cleaned up well enough to be able to stand to drive it in the meantime.
There were only a couple of small shampooing-type machines. This one had "pet" in the name, and this was definitely an epic-sized pet mess, so I lugged it out to my smelly car and got home as quickly as possible.
My husband had left his office and had arrived home to survey the damage by the point. He read the directions while I quickly put water in the machine and got started. Using the large brush on the bottom was not going to be a good option for the nooks and crannies in the back seat, so I turned on the machine and held my hand up to the manual attachment to see how much suction it could managed. It seemed pretty wimpy, but I went to work.
With a first pass of just water using the manual attachment, then hitting the seats with an enzyme cleaner, then finishing off with another pass using the manual attachment and adding the sample cleaners to the water, I am happy to report that we COMPLETELY cleaned the mess. There is not even a hint of a stain.
Now I can't wait to try out the automatic settings on the stains our other dog has left on the carpets in the house!
