Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bissell Steam Mop Hard-Floor Cleaner, Green Tea, 1867-7Customer Review: A great idea for college students! Summary: 5 Stars
While I'm away at college, I have this huge linoleum kitchen floor that absolutely pains me to keep clean. Yes, I am one of those types that needs to have a clean kitchen floor in their college life to keep living happily. Unfortunately, my room-mate is not quite the same as I and spills liquids and foods all over our white floor. It was hard enough for me to sweep the thing, let alone mop it with our $5 mop.
Now that I have this steam cleaner, life is much easier. After I thoroughly swept the kitchen floor, I steamed the #$%& out of it. The results were surprisingly awesome; the floor has never looked this clean, even when we moved in. I was even able to clean this part of the kitchen near the back door that I thought was permanently stained with dirt and now it's spotless.
Pros:
- Cord length was just long enough for the entire kitchen
- Was able to steam the kitchen & bathroom with both floor pads in one sitting
- The floor dried very quickly, as opposed to our "other" mop
- Storage is simple, clean-up time is minimal
Cons:
- The only complaint I have is how you have to hold the button for a long time; that was a bit taxing on my wrists.
I would definitely purchase this again and recommend it to all who are just moving out for the first time, and even for those who have their own homes!
Customer Review: Not perfect but better than bucket & mop Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this steam mop for 3 years after having tried someone's Shark stem mop. This mop is a lot more durable, the mop heads stay on & are washable. It's not great for heavy duty cleaning but it great for light cleaning of dried spills, common daily dirt from shoes, food & drink spills, etc. I wouldn't recommend it for floors that have uneven surfaces such as rough ceramic floors or peel & stick type floors that would need to be scrubbed to get the dirt out of the fine little nooks & crannies. Also, be aware that it's highly recommended you vaccuum your floor before mopping. All the mop will do is move the loose dirt around (I have cats so there's a lot of hair there). It's also not great for cleaning grout lines of ceramic floors. Also, the mop head WILL get wet during cleaning & will cause the floor to stay wet a little longer but it still beats bucket & mop. My floors are not wet for a long time though as they are after using the standard mop. I still find myself needing the bucket & mop for big jobs on occasion but I follow up with my steam mop for the steam part to quickly dry my floor. Also, because of the quick drying time (compared to the standard bucket & mop) I like to use this on my hardwood floors. After spending several years cleaning with a bucket & mop, I still prefer light cleaning with this steam mop even given its shortfalls and highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Throw your old mop away! Summary: 5 Stars
The cleaning power of this mop can't be beat. The swivel head makes it easy to get around table legs and toilets, and it gives you the peace of mind that the floor is not just clean, it's sanitized with no chemicals.
It's ready almost immediately once plugged in, and you have steam control at the touch of a finger. At first, I was surprised that there was no on/off switch, but the unit is essentially "off" until you call for steam. Pressing the steam button turns it "on."
The easy to fill reservoir slides effortlessly into place, and the thick, absorbent mop heads are easy to attach. Just throw them in the wash, and they clean up like new. Also, you don't have to move in slow motion like with some steam mops, as the entire mop head stays firmly planted on the floor, even with some speed.
This is the best steam mop I have found. I have had no problem with my sealed hardwood oak floors, and it did great on my tile. Highly recommended!
[Update 4/20/08: The cord on this mop has turned out to be rather short. However, this is a minor annoyance as we are still more than satisfied with its cleaning power. Tip for keeping the mop heads coming out of the wash like new: order several extra mop heads, and don't let them get overly soiled before changing to a fresh one. Several would be needed to do an entire house.]
Customer Review: Awesome mop!!! SO great for tile and wood floors! Summary: 5 Stars
I am in love! First let me say, I hate mopping. HATE mopping. Avoid it. Alas, with a 3 year old and an 8 month old and beautiful wood floors in my dining room, mop I must. Baby cereal dries to concrete on anything and the scrubbing involved to get it off almost made me get a dog to eat it as fast as it fell (flew!) I saw the commercial for this and the wood floors and the baby that could eat off them and thought it couldn't hurt to try. I love it! I just did my kitchen and dining room in about 10 minutes, their spotless, (including under the highchair- true war zone), I'm not exhausted nor putting away 7 different products, and there are no chemicals to worry about for the baby! Does it dry as fast as it says? I'd say no, you definitely have to give it about 10-15 minutes, though I suppose it would dry faster if I used less water? I keep the steam going the whole time (there's a trigger so you can measure how much you use.) If I was in a hurry, I suppose I could use less steam and it would dry faster- maybe for a nearly clean floor already. I've used it twice now (wanted to really check it out before reviewing) and I highly recommend it. Especially for anyone with kiddos on the floor (or pets I would think.) SO nice not to worry about chemical residue. OH- and you can use it to sanitize too! Love it, love it, love it! I wonder if this would work on my tub...
Customer Review: Capable Product Summary: 5 Stars
Steam mop was easy to install taking about 10 minutes. Operation of the unit was also very straightfoward by simply adding water to the canister and pulling a trigger. I was very surprised how quickly steam was produced. It takes about 20 seconds after plugging in the unit. Once steam is being produced, you are ready to use the machine by holding the trigger. The trigger can be tiring to hold for lengths of time and they could use a trigger lock to hold it in place. Steam is continuously produced and can can begin mopping. The process is a little slower than a typical mop but definately cleaner in that you aren't swishing around dirty water on the floor. The Bissell is effective for flooring that is dirty from everyday usage. It easily picks up dirt, minor grease, spills, etc., and cleans the floor effectively. Although effective for regular use, the Bissell is not a replacement for a professional steam cleaning unit that is used for deep clean of tile and grout in the event you have some time that needs some work. But I think continuous use of this device can significantly reduce the need for professional cleaning. Unit is also great for marble flooring where you cannot use typical chemical cleaners. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and value for this unit. It's definately a capable product that met my expectations.
