I have had this gas generator for a year and if you're considering a reliable home genset, give this unit some serious consideration. Prior to purchase, my research determined that the engine is manufactured in China under license from Honda. Item arrived with packing damage but the support cage around the product rendered enough protection. Once I added oil, it started after three pulls and has been doing so, reliably, for these past 12 months.
Strongly advise the purchase of the wheel kit which will definitely simplify transporting to various parts of your home.
My neighbor has a Honda 5500 watts and paid over $1,800. This unit has a great price with admirable performance.

The Wednesday before Hurricane Gustav hit Baton Rouge I purchased the Blue Max GEN4000 (older version). I joined Amazon Prime and for $283 and change (the generator was on sale for $279) it was delivered to my home the next day. Gustav knocked out 99% of the electric in Baton Rouge. I powered a 5000btu window AC, a couple fans, a side by side refrigerator, three or four low wattage lights and a 19 inch portable TV with this unit 24hrs a day, for 8 days-5 hours. I changed the oil every 72 hours. Not a single problem and started on the first pull most of the time. It was quietier than other generators in my neighborhood and best of all burned just 5-1/2 gal of gas per day.Customer Review: Get a Better Wheel Kit at Harbor Freight

Purchased this unit, unpacked it and found no defects as written in previous reviews. Purchased a wheel kit from HARBOR FREIGHT [...]. It is designed for a 13 hp unit, so it is much more robust than the suggested wheel kit. The HARBOR FREIGHT kit is not an exact fit, but with drilling -4- holes in the generator frame, I find works extremely well supporting this 6.5 hp Blue Max generator.Customer Review: Got me through a ice storm.

All power was lost for several weeks from a huge ice storm. All I can say is that it did its job. Ran the furnace, lights, TV and refrigerator. Had to throttle it a little to start the furnace. A year later when I tested it, the generator fired right up. No complaints. I think I will keep it around.Customer Review: Sturdy design, started on 1st try

It tested out as it handled 2 hair dryers:).
Good instructions, easy to follow.
I don't find it too loud...just right for this kind of generator.
Hopefully, i don't get to use it much, but for next hurricane...i am ready.
