We purchased a new home in May. The kitchen and bathroom floors are beautiful, but heavily textured, vinyl. I went shopping at a home improvement store on the hunt for something to protect them. With all those divots and pits built into the flooring, I anticipated difficulty keeping them clean and unscratched. Crumbs, dust, and tracked-in dirt fall right into those little pits and when you walk over them, they grind into that surface.
I thought I would be purchasing a wax product, but this caught my eye. I decided to give it a try because waxes and polishes made for vinyl are not the easiest to use. They smell bad, stay sticky forever, and build up. I wanted something better and easier.
I followed the label directions and tested it on a small area behind the loo. I waited a full day and inspected. It didn't harm the floor, so I went with a thin coat, applying it with a couple Zwipes. There was hardly any smell and it dried beautifully. So I went ahead with a second coat. The next time I swept and mopped, I was amazed how little "stuff" was sticking to the floor. This product is like Teflon! My dear, dear husband, who has never cleaned a hard floor in decades, was so impressed, he applied two more very thin coats. We were on the verge of making the floors quite shiny, and ours weren't meant to be that way, so we stopped there.
We've been here over four months now, and the floors look like no one has ever walked on them. And today, I accidentally put the bathroom floor to a great test. I colored my hair, waited my 25 minutes and took a shower. After that, I noticed a couple drops of hair color on the floor. Oh, no! I thought. But I licked my finger and ran it over the spots, and they came right off.
I wondered about cleaning the Zwipes when I first used this product. They were damp but tacky. I put them in the washing machine with the rest of my cleaning rags and the product washed out just fine and did not harm the washing machine. I love this product. Try it, and test it in an inconspicuous spot first. And if you do have stone, tile or laminate, apply the product when it's new, if you can.
