Tools and Hardware Reviews of CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud FinderCustomer Review: It's great! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband has always used the "tap and listen" method for finding studs-- checking for the difference in sound and then driving in a nail to see if he had found a stud. To say the least, it was a hit and miss and very time-consuming method. I searched for a electronic stud finder to give him as a Xmas present, but was discouraged by their negative reviews. Then I found the reviews for this stud finder, and was quite impressed. My husband has used it several times already and it is just amazing-- he waves it along the wall and within seconds it picks up the stud!! $11 might sound like a lot of money for a magnet, but believe me, this one is worth it,because apparently, not all magnets are created equal-- my sister bought one for around $5 that was the size of a plastic pencil sharpener that was supposed to find studs and she said it didn't find squat. BTW, my husband says not to store the magnet attached to or near metal or it will lose it's charge.
Customer Review: mini-sized, FULLY-FUNCTIONAL!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought an electronic stud finder and though it was impressively featured often left me unsure about the results. I had to hang my new HDTV on the wall and wanted to be completely sure I was finding the studs. I went online to do some research and ended up deciding on this product. It sounded simple and logical.
When it arrived I was amazed at how small it is, however, this thing absolutely gets the job done. I scanned the wall for stud nails as the instructions suggest with this little unit clinging to the wall on each hit. I marked off three nails on three different studs and saw the markings of the studs perfectly spaced 16" apart. It was a visual guarantee that I had found them. When I went to drill the holes, it was exactly right.
I cannot recommend this simple, small, but fully functional stud finder enough. If you want to find studs, just get this thing and forget all those fancy electronic gadgets.
Customer Review: A Stud Finder that Actually Works Well Summary: 5 Stars
There's nothing fancy about this product, but it is simply awesome. It's not much more than 2 super strong magnets embedded in a plastic case, but it works great and is well worth the small price.
This product quickly finds screws and nails in studs, hence identifying the location of the stud.
The magnets are strong enough to hold the stud finder on the wall. It works on the ceiling too, but the weight of the second magnet over powers the attractive force of the one that's sticking to the screw in the ceiling.
You could just purchase magnets and use those, but good luck keeping track of those. The housing makes the magnets easy to find and also eliminates the hazard that rare earth magnets pose for small children.
I honestly doubt I'll ever use my electronic stud finder again. I find electronic stud finders to be way too frustrating. All I use now is my magnetic stud finder and a plumb bob.
Customer Review: Works for me Summary: 5 Stars
I was installing a heavy chandelier to the ceiling. Bought a rather expensive electronic stud finder from Home Depot. Thought it might be great in future renovations (it was advertised to find wires and such). After 20 something holes drilled and not finding a stud, I thought maybe it was too good to be true. The electronic stud finder was beeping on almost anything and nothing (was mostly irregular about what it beeped at) and it was annoying to use. I decided to return it and get the "STUD4SURE Magnetic Stud Finder" instead based on reviews.
We have metal studs and drywall is new-ish. The magnet stud finder found the metal screw/stud immediately. No more missed studs for me. Even got the TV mounted to the wall with its help. The builders had cut corners and placed the studs 24" apart instead of the regular as I found out with this stud finder. The stud finder's magnet is incredibly strong. Can recommend.
Customer Review: Great tool! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a good model Zircon stud finder with deep scan and electrical detection. This works great except for walls that have insulation between the studs. Unfortunately, these are the walls that I have to find the studs for installing my closet system brackets in 2 bedrooms! After getting too many false readings, ghost readings, no readings, and many missed studs, it came down to this magnet to find the nails in the studs. With thick plaster walls, the magnet won't stick to the wall, but you will be able to feel the magnet pull on the buried nail head. This tool is a little tough to use when you are finding the first stud, but once you find the first one, and after moving over 16", you can find the rest much easier. I still use the Zircon unit to find studs on non-insulated walls and for finding hidden electrical wiring. Just don't put this tool near your credit cards or PC!!!!
