Tools and Hardware Reviews of CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud FinderCustomer Review: Does the job very well & at a cheap price too! Summary: 5 Stars
Honestly, I was skeptical when I read the other reviews. Most stud finders are far more expensive so how could a roughly $10.00 stud finder do the job? The answer it turns out is: "Very Well Thank You."
Thanks to powerful magnets you can stick the stud finder up on the wall and it'll hang there. Then follow the path it one of two directions and you'll find the stud if it's not obvious.
I did have some issues with studs in my ceiling. It could be all the plaster and my desire to not scrape the ceiling covering down on the carpet or another issue I'm not aware of since I didn't build the house. Perhaps there's more wood in the ceiling. So while I could still find the nails, it was about twice as difficult. The magnet will still jerk without touching the ceiling so it should work for you as well.
In short: This $10.00 stud finder should satisfy your needs.
Customer Review: Best stud finder ever Summary: 5 Stars
I have an old house built in the early 1900's and it has the old lathe and horsehair plaster. I've tried all the electronic stud finders and all of them proved to be useless in my case. This one finds the stud every time because of the strenth of the magnet. because of the thickness of my plaster I have to hold it very loosly and it does not hang on the wall like it does when you use it on dry wall but you can feel it pull to the nail in the stud holding the lathe to the stud easily so you know that you are pretty close to the center of the stud and it never misses. If you use it on a wall with wallboard it will pull it right out of your hand. It is incredible. This stud finder does one job and it does it incredibly well. Anyone hanging cabinets or shelves has to have this. Forget the electronic ones that sense density and go with this. You won't be dissapointed.
Customer Review: What a Stud Magnet!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
After a series of failed relationships with loser boyfriends, my friends labeled me as a "dud" magnet. I was always insecure and embarrassed to bring my boyfriends around my friends for fear of shame and ridicule. Finding a stud is no simple task, at least, not until I got my stud4sure stud finder. Since this amazing device arrived in the mail, my life has been completely transformed!!!!! No longer am I creeping behind "dry wall" looking for studs. After months of being on a dry spell, I'm mounting things all the time as it's easy to find a screw with the studfinder!!! It's simple! The stud finder uses powerful rare earth magnets to pinpoint the exact location of a stud, making landing a good nail as easy as pie! No batteries, no lights, no hassle! Thanks stud4sure, for turning a "dud" magnet, into a "stuuuuuud" magnet!!!!!
Customer Review: Impressed Summary: 5 Stars
We've never owned a stud finder before, but we just moved into a house and didn't want to go drilling holes and guessing to find the studs for hanging things like we did in our apartment. I was really impressed with the reviews and I decided on this over an electronic stud finder. It sure helped that it was so inexpensive. We just got it and it works great - I can hardly believe how strong a pull this magnet has to our walls! Our toddlers are always curious about our tools and this is one that I don't mind them playing with since it's enclosed in plastic and has no moving parts. The stud finder did look different on the website a week ago when I ordered it (it looks a lot more simple now). We got the newer version, so I was a little surprised when I opened the box, but I don't care what it looks like as long as it works.
Customer Review: Worth it .......considering Summary: 5 Stars
It's just a super powerful magnet. Oh yeah and a 1/2 inch level which I can't ever imagine what I might use it for except plumbing a very very very small picture frame (I think I can handle that myself). It tells you where the nail or screw is in the stud regardless of whether it's offcenter or not. If the nail is off center you'll be off center too. It doesn't tell you where the stud edge is. If you need to mark the center of the stud you could be off by almost 3/4". But considering the price of tools that beep at the stud edge that actually are reliable, it's worth it. Plus it's tough to break and doesn't use batteries. Of course a simple rare earth magnet does the same thing. The power of the magnet sticks to the drywall nail allowing you an extra hand to mark where the stud is and hopefully it will be near the center.
