Tools and Hardware Reviews of CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud FinderCustomer Review: simple yet effective Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this a few months ago and was amazed by it. I used this to hang some speaker shelves and a mount for my plasma tv (along with several other projects) and I have yet to miss a stud. It's simply a powerful magnet in a plastic casing. At first I was skeptical and tried it out at home and was blown away. Just moved it along a wall in a figure 8 and it stuck to the wall where there's a screw (it sticking to the wall is especially helpful if you're working on a ladder (it frees up your hands so you don't have to hold it with one hand and then mark the spot with your other hand). It's slightly bigger than a double A battery. If you do buy this then make sure you use the little plastic [holder] to store it in (that way it doesn't get nicked up in your tool box and it won't stick to metal tools as much).
Customer Review: Quick and dirty stud finder... Summary: 5 Stars
I'm sure there are a ton of stud finders out there on the market, some more expensive than others. Some have all the bells and whistles like AC detection, wood/metal detection, fancy LCD screens, etc. I myself have two zircon ones and when I saw a cabinet installer use this thing, I knew I had to get one (once he found the stud, he'd use a self leveling laser to project the vertical stud line). Plus on amazon it's 1/2 the price compared to the O store. All it does is have two rare earth magnets that cling to the nails and/or screws used to hold drywall in place. It's also got a leveling bubble that you can rotate 90 degrees. What a simple concept! No wonder why there are over 180 reviews for this thing.
It's so inexpensive and small that it's a must have for your toolbox...
Customer Review: Works for me Summary: 5 Stars
Got this to hang my Plasma TV. I also borrowed the other kind of stud finder from my father-in-law. This works well for me, as this just look for the nails on the wall and usually nails are on 2x4, so it works. My Plasma is on that wall pretty securely and not coming down (knock on wood).
The other kind of stud finder didn't do too well of a job, since the wall I'm hanging on is the separator wall between my townhouse and the next door, I think it's got some pilewood boards, probably made it hard for that kind of stud finder to find stud.
That being said, this stud finder is just a big magnet, so you could theoretically get your own magnet and the do same trick w/o buying this. However, this magnet probably is bit stronger?? Plus the level kinda help.
Customer Review: The last studfinder you will EVER buy Summary: 5 Stars
I've been putting up shelves and things for YEARS and have ALWAYS been disappointed by supposed 'stud-finders'. The electronic ones were horribly inaccurate and often gave false readings. The cheap magnetic ones were worthless. STUD-4-SURE, though, has worked EVERY SINGLE TIME. I kid you not, it's made putting up shelves and brackets a very approachable task. Stud-finding was always the uncertain headache involved, and now it's a pleasure to see this powerful magnet find those studs. Tip: If you can't find your stud by sweeping your wall with this device, scan the floorboards at the base of the wall - they are normally nailed into studs.
So yes, save hours of your life, and consider this a long-term investment: it's the last stud-finder you'll ever need to buy.
Customer Review: At last a studfinder that works Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, I've tried the expensive stud finders and ended up throwing them in my junk drawer. They were either totally confusing to operate, or just didn't work properly. This one is so simple. It operates on just a super strong magnet that locates the nail in the stud and actually clings to the wall where the nail is, so I can let go and mark the wall while it is still clinging to the wall. I usually let my husband hang things as I get too frustrated trying to figure out if I am in the right spot or not. Now it takes me less than a minute to find the stud and the job is done. No waiting for when my husband has time to do it. Can't believe something so simple and inexpensive works so well. This one is a keeper!! I'll recommend it to all my friends...
