If I could give this six stars, I would. This little tool is very cheap but does the job better than very expensive electronic stud finders - it works a different way!
This stud finder has magnets on it, really powerful little ones. It finds the nails that were driven into your studs when the house was built, with perfect ease.
The first time I used it, I took it out of the packaging, ran it over my wall where i needed to drill, and found the stud in about 12 seconds. Best part about it - it sticks to the wall where the stud is so you can mark it without holding the stud finder!
Don't bother with a Zircon. At all. Just buy this, you can't go wrong.

I've tried a number of electronic stud finders and been uniformly disappointed. This simple device does one thing and does it well: it finds the metal screws (or nails) used to attach the drywall to the studs. It's simple, fast and unambiguous: The magnet is powerful enough to hold the finder to the wall over a screw.
There are caveats: It'll find any random screw, nail or other piece of metal in your wall; It assumes that the person who installed the drywall actually hit the stud; It won't detect conduit, wires or electricity. That said, it's easy enough to mark 2 or more screws and confirm they're in a vertical line before driving your own screw or nail.

Well, let me begin by saying that I am not a Pro; but I am a 'Jack of all Trades;' like many of you out there who say's 'I can fix that.'
The CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder should be a tool that should become part of every toolbox. I have owned a couple electronic stud-finders and often they have failed me.
There is no failing with CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder; you can be rest assured that you will find a 'stud' every time.
Invest in one of these and you will not go wrong.

As incredible as it may sound, the CH Hanson 03040 STUD4SURE Magnetic Stud Finder is not only magnificent at performing its designed task, but it is quite small (and therefore easy to tuck into any toolbox) and priced lower than so many of the "bells-and-whistles" stud finders on the market.
The very first time I tried it, I was able to locate a stud in under 15 seconds, and, as other users and the manufacturer have indicated, once the stud is found, the finder can be left on the wall, holding itself in place with the magnets inside it.
I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stud finder. It's fantastic.

I was skeptical when I found this on Amazon. I needed a stud finder to mount a flat screen to the wall, and most stud finders I found were $50+. I saw this one and thought it must be too good to be true, but I had time to return it if it didn't work. Well, it works! It has two really powerful magnets that find the nails in the studs. All you have to do is move it in circles on your wall until it finds a nail (you'll feel a strong pull when you get to a nail). Then move up and down to make sure that there are other nails, meaning there is actually a stud there. I used this for mounting a flat screen tv to the wall, so I know it works.
