Heavy weight, 100% cotton twill. Stain resistant treated fabric. Silicone treated allowing for a better grip on hot cookware. Silicone is heat resistant up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Silicone treated on both sides allowing for use for both right handed and left handed consumers. Hang loop for easy storage. These are wonderful potholders. They have a nice non-slip backing which is also resistant to heat. I like the smaller size, but they are not too small. One woman commented that you might burn your hand if you were holding a pot handle with them, but I find that it seems unlikely that you would as there is enough coverage even where it curves. I bought 3 pairs of potholders at the same time to compare them and I love them all - I can't pick which one is the best. I also bought the Kuhn-Rikon potholders, which I love for the hand slots and silicon backing and a pair of Sonoma potholders from Kohl's, which are nice big ovals that you can fold your hand into halfway and have lots of thick terry lining inside - very thick potholders with neoprene backing. The Calphalon has silicon strips. The Kuhn-Rikon has silicon non-slip backing which is substantial. I love all three potholder sets and couldn't decide which to return, so I am keeping all three of them. I recommend a black or gray color because it doesn't show dirt as much. I just discarded my old navy potholders with a metal ring that used to drive me crazy with the noise it made.
