My previous garage opener was also by Chamberlain.
It lasted since 1995, but it came to its natural end in Jan 2011
So I got this package "Chamberlain CG40D 1/2-HP Chain Drive" from Amazon for under $140, shipping included.
The guy who installed the new unit had earlier examined the the one that failed to find the mother board was cooked, probably by a current spike. Then he said, replacement board would be $153, and a new unit $357, both offers refused.
This time I added a plug-in surge protection at about $9 for a good measure.
Since only the head unit needed replacing, I wound up with a lot of heavy spare parts. The installer also replaced the brackets and the infrared motion detectors at the bottom of the door for a good measure.
If it were not for the cold, I could have easily done the replacement job myself, and the other door will get a new unit of the same make come summertime.
