Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain GA400D PowerDrive 3000 Single Gate Access SystemCustomer Review: GA400D Gate Opener a very good value Summary: 5 Stars
I just built a 12 foot wide, 6 foot tall driveway gate (steel frame with cedar slats spaced 1/4 inch apart). It weighs about 190 lbs., and with the potential wind impact, I wanted a well built opener that didn't cost a fortune, but that could handle a heavy gate. Read too many poor reviews of the cheaper openers, and decided to try this Chamberlain product that is rated for an 850 lb. gate up to 18 feet. (I considered the much less expensive Chamberlain unit that others have favorably reviewed here, but I wanted to be able to add a lock and exit sensor...plus I wanted an opener rated for a heavier gate than I have to allow for the wind). I paid $450, and am very satisfied. Chamberlain does an outstanding job with their installation manuals and installation videos, and it was an easy install. Programming is easy too, and programming a new remote or digital keypad takes only a few seconds. Opener is nearly silent, and seems to be very strong and well made, although I can't comment on durability as yet. It opens and closes my gate effortlessly. I was considering openers costing nearly twice this much, but am glad I went with this one. It can accomodate all of the accessory features I needed (gate lock, exit sensor, etc.), and I was able to find those items at very good prices on ebay. As an added plus, I was able to program my existing Liftmaster 3 button garage door openers to work with the gate opener as well. Add a digital keypad (940D) which you can get for around $20 (ebay) and you can have access via a 4 digit code for visitors or to exit when walking. The included 3 button remote works from my house, which is nearly 400 feet away, so I can open the gate for guests who don't have the code. I found a great wireless Chamberlain doorbell intercom system (NDIS) which has no problem reaching 400 feet and inside my block construction home so we can talk to guests and open the gate for them. The doorbell sound this unit makes can be heard throughout the house when the button is pushed outside at the gate.
All in all, I am quite impressed by this opener, and by the inexpensive Chamberlain doorbell/intercom and keyless digital keypad accessories. Incidentally, these openers are also marketed under the Liftmaster name with slightly different product numbers. From what I can tell, they are functionally identical, although the Liftmaster versions seem to be more expensive in many cases.
