Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote Control

Customer Review: Works great, easier to set-up than anticipated
Summary: 5 Stars

I read the reviews before I purchsed this product, as I almost always do. Everyone has different experiences, and you kind of have to go with the majority and hope you are not in the minority. So, I was concerned about set up, and since I had an older Wayne Dalton unit (1999) I was afraid it may have problems. Well, I could not do the auto set up and had to resort to dip switches, and pressing the button so many times until it worked. There is only one set on dip switches on the Chamberlin, and I have the two door clicker, so that seemed to be a problem, but not. Set the dip switch for one door, click the left button until the door opens (you don't have to worry about how many times, just keep clicking, and the door will open.) Then one door is programed. Re-set the dip switches again, then press the right button several times until the other door opens. That side is programmed. Do read the instructions, because there is something you have to do after the door opens that "sets" the program, I just can't remember what it is. Anyway, much easier than anticipated.
As far as the distance from the door before it opens the door is just a matter of whatever, "cosmic interference?" Sometimes just before I pull into the driveway (50%) end of the driveway (30%) 10 feet from the door (20%) This is basically the way the original unit worked.
I was going to give this only 4 stars, because that's just the way I am, but what the heck, it was easy to set up, works well and the price was very reasonable, less than the rest, so why not 5 stars.

Customer Review: Worked like a champ
Summary: 5 Stars

This worked like a champ.

There are dip switches and a programmable mode so you can get most (not all) brands programmed into here.
Read the manual before purchasing to find out if you're brand may/may not be supported

As an FYI, the reason I purchased this one is because it covers almost every MHz that is used by garages. I programmed mine for a commercial building that is quite old.

A list of compatible devices included in the manual includes:
Brand / Type or Color of Smart button / years
(programmable)
Linear / Mega-Code / 97-Current
Chamberlin / Orange/Red / 97-03
Chamberlin / Purple / 05-Current
Chamberlin / Green / 93-96
Genie Overhead / Intellicode / 93 - Current
Stanely / Secure Code / 98
Wayne Dalton / Rolling Code 372.5 MHz / 99 - Current
Chamberlin / 9 Position /90 - 92

(dip switches)
Brand / Description / Year
Chamberlin / 9 Position (or 9 Position Canada) / 90-92 (83-89 for Canada)
Genie / 12 Position / 85
Linear Multicode / 10 Position / 76
Chamberlin / 8 Position / 83-89
Stanley/Multicode / 10 Position / 76

Customer Review: Works with my old garage door opener!
Summary: 5 Stars

This garage door remote works with new and old garage door openers.

I bought this for an old garage door opener (Challenger 9300 Series) that used DIP switches for the codes instead of the contemporary, rolling code style that is automatically generated.

If you remove the bottom cover of this remote, you'll see many DIP switches inside that you can set to match the DIP switches found on your garage door opener (if you an old model). After several tries of following the instructions, it didn't work. But the instructions did have one little footnote that helped in my case : Set the DIP switches of the remote in the reverse order of what you have set on your garage door opener. Hope that helps you if you're stuck.

GOOD POINTS
- Compatible with dozens and dozens of garage door openers, even old ones
- Comes with a sun visor clip for your car. This clip can be left off too.
- Both buttons are programmable, in case you have a 2 car garage.
- This remote probably looks better than the one that came with your garage door opener.

Customer Review: It works
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a 15 year old Stanley opener with tiny switches and a 5 year old Genie electronic system and they are both programmed with this opener. A built-in opener sold by the auto dealers can cost over $400. Multiply that by the number of vehicles you put it in and it can get stupid expensive. This was less than $30. The instructions tell you how to program each button based on lists of names of different systems. It took some time to figure out which settings to use because my older system didn't work with the suggested programming and I had to experiment. I did get frustrated at the beginning. If it doesn't work at first you may need to be patient, stick with it. If you have newer equipment it should go quicker. The whole process took no more than 45 minutes.
I do not like adding things I have to store inside my car which contributes to clutter but his is small and I've made peace with clipping it to my visor. My suggestion for this company is to make a 3 or 4 button opener so I don't need to store multiple openers.
I've used it for over a month and it works fine.

Customer Review: Wow! Am I happy!
Summary: 5 Stars

My Genie opener was installed in 1990, and I had dropped the remote for what turned out to be the last time. I had searched and found out that model remote was no longer made. I took a chance and ordered the Clicker. When the Clicker arrived, I found the reference to my unit. I knew about the DIP switches inside my existing remote, and the Clicker instructions told me to program the DIP switches inside the Clicker just the same. (This is only true for specific models of openers, remotes and year installed - others use the programming button on the receiver). I followed the clear directions: they seemed a bit odd, but I followed them exactly (17 clicks) and voila! ~ the garage door opened! I programmed the other door as well, and now I have one compact remote to open both doors. I cannot believe it took me so long to find the solution, and it took less than five minutes to program the two doors. Wow! Am I happy! The instructions are clear and detailed, and you just need to follow them exactly. I actually missed the first time and simply started over, following more carefully.
