Customer Review: Best Bang for your Buck

Installation is easy for the technically inclined. Unit operates much faster than the other top brands. Love the light feature. It does not tell you this feature, but when you have the motion sensor switched off, it really is still on. When the door is open and the light has timed out and no one is in the garage (motion not sensed), should anyone walk within this motion sensors range, the lights will turn on. A great feature when you're out and about during limited visual lighting times in your yard or anywhere else but in the garage, then decide to walk into your garage, wham the light comes on...lol The best feature I like about this belt drive unit: it is VERY VERY quiet. Very little vibration felt on the floor above the ceiling that these units are mounted on.
One feature I did not like about this unit is the wireless remote keypad: first it only accepts 4 digit number in its program and second: it won't accept a permanent set of codes for another program. I used the Genie GIRUD-1T Universal Dual Frequency Radio Conversion Kit with the Genie wireless key pad GWKPD-BL to accomplish this task. While the Chamberlain WD962KD does have a temp pin settings, it is restricted to usage times and only a 4 digit code.
Another feature I did not like or wished Chamberlain included, is that there is only 1 door operating switch (2 if you count the wireless keypad). I like the ability to close the garage door by a switch mounted near the garage doors. I accomplished this by installing door bell push button switches and wired it the same as the included wall mount switch.
Installation note: If you're going to take on this task, please understand that you cannot flush mount this unit with the brackets supplied because the belt drive gear housing cover on the motor will hit the ceiling when attempting to secure with the hardware. You will need to get additional brackets or hardware to maintain a gap between this cover and ceiling. Also, Chamberlain does not conform to mounting standards (nor does anyone else) so even if you are replacing another opener of a different brand, you will still need to modify the mounting order. Once you pass the installation phase you will love these units.
I like the fact that this specific model goes up fast, then slows down at the last 18" of travel to a stop. Going down, the unit travels at a slower than the up speed throughout its travel. The safety features are very sensitive and for those who are safety conscious you will like these units. I had the door travel onto my foot and it felt like a child was stepping on it. I guess about a foot pound of pressure and the door will reverse. I could just place my hand out when the door is traveling down and reverse the door operation great when you forget something. The sensors that are mounted on the bottom rails work great as well and the units lights flash when something is in the way like my body when I'm trying to shut the door with the switch and forget about those little guys below..lol
Chamberlain has thought out this safety issue quite well, maybe to good, because when we had that major snow awhile back, some of the snow came in when I opened the door, so when the door was closing it reversed when it was just closed, it was tilted to one side slightly and I guess the snow build up (it thought a foot or something) was preventing it from closing. Yes, I know about the adjustment settings with regards to this, but I left it at the default, because this unit could bend or damage your doors closing which in my case was a good thing.
Also, these units are 3/4 horsepower. More than ample amount of torque and closing power to overcome any springs you may have. If you don't have springs, these units are strong enough to lift up a 9 foot wide by 8 foot high solid wood garage door with no problems.
