Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cobra Products 400 Zip-It Drain Cleaning ToolCustomer Review: It works! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this after trying easier alternatives (drano, lye, zip-it) to no avail. This thing took about 15 minutes on first use to operate. I imagine it'll take less time going forward. It pulled out a massive gunk of decaying hair easily. Just two tips: (1) if you have an old tub, it probably has an overflow drain -- remove the cover and stick this snake in there instead of the normal drain (I tried sticking this down the normal drain but it wouldn't go further than 8 inches and then I recalled seeing the plumbers removing the overflow drain cover and using that...) and (2) don't twist it too much b/c the hair will get all tangled and wound up in the coils and it will be very difficult to clean/remove.
Customer Review: I've been searching for this! Summary: 5 Stars
Someone gave me one of these years ago, and it has been the best thing for getting hair out of drains. It's narrow, flexible, and simple to stick down a drain, and the little teeth grab all the hair as it comes up. I'm sure there are other tools that are better for serious clogs, but this was great for preventing small clogs from ever becoming big ones. The one I had finally broke this past year, and my small clogs keep escalating.
I've been searching for another one. I had no idea what it was called and haven't been able to find it in the local hardware stores. I have only finally found it here after searching through pages and pages of drain cleaning tools. I definitely recommend this.
Customer Review: Works better than $20 worth of strong chemicals & safer than power tools!! Summary: 5 Stars
I did not want to use my rarely-used powered auger/snake on my fiberglass jacuzzi tub (afraid I might chip the fiberglass if I did not do a perfectly steady, even insertion, turning and removal). After using several of the usual strong chemicals on my jacuzzi tub drain, with little improvement, I tried the ZipIt. Not only did it pull up the disgusting hair clumps, it brought a small, mystery piece of packaging plastic that was somehow lodged in the drain. The reviewer that said "insert, then turn" had the best advice of all. Turning it after inserting all the way made all the difference. Did it a couple of times and everything drains perfect. Buy it!! Keep one on hand-- you will need it one day.
Customer Review: Worked Great for my Sink Clog Summary: 5 Stars
I was excited to rip open this tool and get right at my slow sink clog. I put on some rubber gloves thanks to another reviewer's advice and got after it. It was easy to use, just took some pulling and jiggling to pull it out at times, but nothing difficult. I inserted it down about 5 times at different entry points around the drain to make sure I had everything and it pulled up a decent amount of hair (yuk). Glad I had the gloves on to help pull stuff off the tool and away from the drain as I worked.
After about 5 minutes of work the sink drained perfectly with no chemicals or big to-do! Glad to have this tool around the house for future clogs.
Customer Review: Great for Cleaning My Carpet Steamer Summary: 5 Stars
Got this to clean the furry gunk out of my carpet steamer. Even though I vacuum first, the carpet cleaner sucks up carpet fibers, dust balls (I guess that's what that unidentified dark fibrous gunk is) and other slime that can build up in the intake of my steamer. So a Hoover guy I spoke with suggested one of these gizmos. I ordered it from Amazon and it was here in two days. I later found them at my local independent hardware store. It works perfectly and I use it on my steamer every time I finish cleaning the carpets. Have never used it on a tub drain b/c I have one of those little mesh traps in the drain to collect hair before it ever goes down.
