I dont usually fall for those TV gimmick devices that are advertised all the time but I fell for this one. I knew they were probably only good for small soldering jobs, circuit boards and fine wire, things like that. I needed to repair something, cant remember what now but this seamed like the ideal tool to use to fix it and this was cheaper than replacing the other, and it gave me the excuse to buy one of these. Was that ever a waist of money!
To get this to work you have to get both sides of the split tip touching what you want to solder "at the same time" or nothing happens. Anything bigger than a fine hair is too big for it to get hot enough. You have to be super steady because the slightest slip and you get an arc that damages the tip. That's the other thing, I don't know what the tip is made of but its very fragile and easy to damage. And even if you can get it to work, when it works it doesn't do that great of a job. I could do better holding a 16 penny nail in a pair of plyers and heating it with a candle and use that to solder with.
So take your money and go get a regular soldering iron that works, and is probably cheaper. Trust me, you don't want this TV fantasy tool, it won't even work in your dreams!
