Of the three chalk holders I purchased, this is by far the best. The others were either too thick (plastic) or the chalk would slide in when writing on the board. This one holds the chalk well - the clip prevents it from rolling on desk - nice touch. The free, clear case is wonderful - keeps my bag clean. Yes, you have to unscrew the bottom when sliding out more chalk but that takes less than 2 seconds. I do it while talking to the class. I will be purchasing a couple more; One to have "ready to go" in case I don't want to stop for a few seconds. The other will be for colored chalk. Great product.Customer Review: Nicely machined item

I bought this for marking lumber in my woodshop. I needed a chalk holder that would fit in my apron and protect the chalk from my other tools and vice-versa. This item works perfectly. The knurling on the chalk lock is deep and grippy. The size is right for a pencil pocket in my apron. I haven't dropped it yet, but I have confidence it will keep the chalk from breaking when I do. The product arrived three days earlier than expected, what a wonderful surprise!
Using the product is as simple as... open package, insert chalk, begin writing. The grip is nice, extending the chalk is easy, and no more chalk dust drying out my fingers is the best part.
I'm a college instructor and all my students want to use it when they come up to the board. They even ask where they can get one. Great value for the price.

I use this chalk holder to grade targets on the shooting range. It holds the chalk tight, I like the fact that you have to twist the holder to retrieve and twist back to hold the chalk. I am a furniture maker, and use chalk a lot to mark lumber during the milling process. I got tired of losing small pieces of chalk in my apron, and breaking up new pieces as I carried boards around the shop. This holder solved all of the problems.
