I'd never done any soldering before purchasing this unit so it had to be pretty trouble free as a learning experience. I wanted it primarily for making up guitar patch cables and asked the supplier of the DIY kit which of several units he recommended. He answered this one with an exclamation mark. The patch cables are done and work perfectly. I've even taken on a few other soldering projects I would ordinarily have passed on and every one's been a snap. The Weller WES51 (Analog Soldering Station) is amazing. I had been using whatever soldering iron was on sale whenever I needed one, only to have it fail after a few uses. After the last one broke I decided it was time to move up to a decent iron. I researched several and decided the WES51 would meet my needs - the best bang for the buck. It has performed flawlessly. I bought one of these about 5 years ago. It worked fine and all of a sudden it stopped. Doing trouble shooting told me that the printed circuit board was bad. Rather than try to repair it, I went to several sites looking for a new one. Amazon had the best price and as a bonus, the shipping was for free. It was a no-brainer. After having been let down by a Radio Shack brand iron that was impossible to find replacement tips for, I opted for a well-known name & I'm glad I did. This iron is a champ. It doesn't have some of the wiz-bang features of higher-end products, but it's a solid setup. The stand is heavy and has good rubber feet to keep it in place on a work surface. Tip replacement is easy & replacement tips are easily found.Customer Review: Works well, typical of Weller soldering products.

Nice solderstation. Lived up to my high expectations for a Weller product. Features I like: Slim solder pencil, (although you can't take it apart to repair it, the pencil is available as a replacement part and not expensive). Heats up very quickly. Uses standard weller tips. Good heat output (50 watt iron) for a small solder station. I use it daily for electronics repair, and it is serving me well.
