Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cosco 11-120CBB1 Retro Chair and Stool Black and Chrome

Customer Review: Teetering Stepstool
Summary: 2 Stars

Assembly instructions were easy to follow, and everything fit into place nicely. However, The four legs on the main stool are not even length. I thought I made an error in the assembly so I took it apart and reassembled it again, but to no avail. I ended up gluing a rubber pad to the bottom of one short leg to keep the chair from wobbling.

Customer Review: short and not the best

This CHAIR is fine if you would like a small step stool with a chair. I though that it would have been stool height, as it appears taller in the photo and the word stool misled me. The quality is OK, but not the best. If you are looking for an inexpensive chair with a step to reach top shelves, then this is probably fine.

It is Christmas eve and I have spent three hours to get align a support bar to this stool. Putting this stool together would be rather simple, the problem is that the holes do not align properly when it comes to the horizontal supports that allows the steps to slide/glide. There are two parts to each side for the sliding effect. On the outside are two metal 'straps' with the inside being two plastic parts that have the grove for the sliding effect. The point is to insert a screw through the black plastic slides so that they screw into the two black metal straps. The problem is that the bolts in the metal straps don't properly align with the holes in chrome legs. One fits and the other is off by two centimeters. It is just plain sloppy work. I was lucky to be able to screw one of the scraps and its plastic part together, although it looks ugly. The other side is an impossibility. The only open is actually to have someone widen the hole in the chrome leg so that it will be side enough for the bolt on the metal strap to enter and then screw it. Another option is to leave the two steps off and forget about them. However, I've decided on a third option. This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my mother, who has a difficult time standing for a long period of time, such as when she cooks. My third option is that I will 'give' it to her but only as mock up, kind of an IOU. On Monday I'll start looking around for one in my area that doesn't require putting it together, or simply one of a better quality. Then, I'm going to toss this sucker out. I've done too much 'damage' to it to send it back. I tried to hammer the bolts of these straps through the holes but to no avail. I also tried to bend them so that both would go in and that didn't work.

Customer Review: I've been ripped off!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this chair with considerable excitement. When I unpacked it, it was immediately obvious that it was but a fraction of the weight, sturdiness, and quality of the original. (We had one of these in my home as a kid in the 60's).

I assembled it hoping that though it was not as sturdy or durable that it would work well enough.

Assembly was easy enough, but...when I sat in it and then leaned back on the back rest the bottom struts ripped loose. So, I disassembled and reassembled the chair; tried it again, and...same thing. I absolutely assembled it correctly. The problem is an engineering and design problem.

Not only is this chair cheap and flimsy but it is DANGEROUS!!!

For the record: I only weigh 180 lbs. I'll not let anyone in my family sit on this stool. It goes back to Cosco or to the dump tomorrow.

In summary, this is the worse consumer product I've bought in years. This stool would be a rip off at $5.

Customer Review: Cosco Quality Questionable
Summary: 1 Stars

Bought this as a gift for my mother..unfortunately, never was able to give it to her. When my husband attempted to assemble it, he found the hole on one leg was stripped out. He callead customer service (on hold for 30 mins) and described the problem. They promised to replace the defective leg....but,never did. A month after waiting for the part, he sent an email to their customer service address with detailed info regarding the defective part...after 3 weeks still no word or replacement. Amazon is sending return label...will be glad to have the parts and box out of my living room!!

Cosco you can do better than this!
