Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan HF-360 Whole House Sediment Filter Clear Housing

Customer Review: Awesome filter
Summary: 5 Stars

I was lucky enough to already have one of these installed in the house I bought in 2004. Just the thing for a well water system. The drinking water gets further refined by a reverse osmosis filter, but no sediment in any of the water in the house.

Customer Review: easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

I put one of these in my house 9yrs ago and it works great. My sister needed one, so I got it from amazon because of the price. Easy to put in and use.

Customer Review: This is still cheap plastic install with caution.

Culligan HF-360 Whole House Sediment Filter Clear Housing once installed was wonderful and made the sometimes ugly brown water clear and odorless in about 30 minutes. An unforeseen bonus was the water heater is now stink free too. A task that didn't even work when i manually flushed out the tanks sediments a few weeks before installing the whole house filter. This surprised me but i suppose a mineral is a mineral not sure about the exact science involved here folks. I used the Culligan P5-D Level 4 5 Micron Sediment Filtration 2 Pack Replacement Cartridges in this unit and was a bit skeptical on how they fit but i figure well we shall just wait and see. I intentionally tried to stay with another Culligan branded filter at lowest microns because i knew before hand this water was sketchy.

A tip i learned the hard way was to use a separate 3/4 inch ball valve to isolate the water coming to this unit before installing. This will allow you to properly cut off the water to the filters inlet 100%. This will be the best $3.20 you ever spent if you have high water pressure like i do. This way if the main unit fails or cracks you wont have a flood you cant stop with a simple turn of this valve until you get to the street valve main turn off point if needed. The as they said "Patented shut off valve for easy cartridge replacement" is not very good under high pressure period. This light blue shut off valve on top of the unit will seep or even leak depending on your water pressure when changing filters making a ole big mess for some of you out there. For me that is not really a big issue because the unit is tucked away under the house where a muddy patch is no big deal. Also when you turn the light blue valve on top of the unit if your not cautious your putting direct pressure on the adjacent pipes which might eventually cause them to leak/snap. The Culligan HF-360 Whole House Sediment Filter Clear Housing however leaked right away from the inlet and outlet first install even with PTFE taped ends inserted. It continued to seep while i attempted to gently tighten my own pvc fittings to the housing unit for the 2nd time to completely stop them from dripping. This was a delicate balancing act because the last thing i wanted to do was crack the housing unit case itself with too much torque or strip out/break the pvc heads off. DO NOT USE ORDINARY PLIERS HERE YOU WILL BREAK THE UNIT! Eventually to my relief it stopped seeping and i was now a happy camper. I used some petroleum jelly on the supplied o ring to ensure a proper seal with the clear housing unit and that was fine first try no leaking.

So far this has been a pretty good product for plastic but it certainly will not absorb any type of constant movement or abuse this includes while installing so be careful cause yes it will crack and leak in an instant. Please just try to make sure the Culligan HF-360 Whole House Sediment Filter Clear Housing is mounted securely to begin with. Remember to properly protect the unit from freezing weather too. The Culligan HF-360 Whole House Sediment Filter Clear Housings cheap plastic and lack of proper fittings/mounts supplied with the unit makes it a 4 star purchase in my eyes. If those items where included it would easily justify a higher price and a 5th star to make the majority of installs easier and quicker. But no lets attempt to nickel and dime the customer for some more coin makes sense to me...not.

Customer Review: Great product for your $$
Summary: 4 Stars

I just bought a house that is on well and septic. We had no water softener or filter system. I first installed a water softener in hopes that would take care of most of the hard water issues. After a few weeks of the water softener being in I was still getting a rust ring forming on the bottom of our brand new toilet. After installing this product it has eliminated all signs of rust and other contaminants in our water. My water now feels and tasted great, all off a $40 filter system. Cant go wrong with that. My only tip would be to go out and buy some plumbers pipe compound to use to seal the connections rather than the plumbers tape provided. Had a issue with a small drip from the end of the filter that the water exits from at first. just removed the connection and added pipe compounded and fixed the problem All in all a fantastic product
