Tools and Hardware Reviews of DSI Outlet Wireless Remote Wall Outlets, 3 Outlets with 1 RemoteCustomer Review: Very handy devices! Summary: 4 Stars
I have a couple of fluorescent light fixtures in my garage. Only one of them is wired to a light switch, which is across the garage from the door. Two of these wireless receivers are now controlling the two fixtures and I've mounted the remote to the wall with some Velcro. Now I have a light switch next to the door and didn't have to wire anything up!
Pros: Easy to install and use, 3 prong grounded outlet allows almost any device to be used, comes with a transmitter battery, range seems to be good and doesn't require line of sight
Cons: Transmitter battery is an odd size (A23), one of the receivers rattles - but it works...I just wonder for how long, transmitter is an odd shape - would be nice if it had a regular switch, sometimes need to hold the button down or press it twice in order to turn the receiver on or off, the receivers are quite large
Customer Review: Worked as described Summary: 4 Stars
Product worked as described. I read some reviews stating it's lack of range. I didn't find this to be a problem at all. It works just fine as is. The range I needed is about 15-20 feet so I haven't had a change to tests how far it would go.
The only down size is that the adapter (socket) covers up both wall outlets. I have another light switch by GE that doesn't cover up both. However, this is a good value since you get 3 socket/outlet adapters for the price of about one of the GE brand. Overall, good buy.
UPDATE: Well, I guess the range issue is true. One of the receiver's range went down... WAY down. The remote literally has to be about 1-2 feet away for it to work. The other 2 receivers seem ok... so far.
Customer Review: Regarding Range Summary: 4 Stars
Some reviews complain about a lack of range or having to point the remote at the receiver for it to work... at first I noticed the same thing until I figured out what was happening. If you press the button quickly, the light on the remote will light up, but nothing happens on the receiver side (most likely either remote is not sending the signal or the signal is not sent for a long enough duration for the receiver to pick it up). However, if you press and hold the button for a short period of time, it seems to work flawlessly. I've tried it through walls, outside from a reasonable distance, etc and so long as I pressed the button for longer than just tapping (e.g. press for a half second or so) I had no issues.
Customer Review: Works great, big though! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the DSI EZ Outlet Remote based on the reviews and have not been disappointed. You get three wall units and the remote control and they are very easy to set up. Basically, plug the units into your outlets, plug your lights or small appliances into the units and turn them on. The wall units are each numbered and correspond to the numbered buttons on the remote. You can also turn the units on/off manually. One thing that did surprise me was the size of the wall units - they are approximately 5" x 2 6/8" x 2 3/4" - and they don't leave much room to enable you to plug something else into the bottom of the wall outlet. You might want to take that into consideration before you buy this product.
Customer Review: Very good product Summary: 4 Stars
Very good product. I tested one with a multimeter. They draw NO POWER of their own when plugged in. They are quiet when they activate due to there being no relay used to make the connection.
Too bad I'm limited to only three controllers, or I would have given 5 stars.
Update: I checked again on a lower amp setting and they draw about 10 milliamps.
