Tools and Hardware Reviews of DeLonghi TRH0715 Oil Filled Radiator Heater

Customer Review: Give it some time and it'll get the job done
Summary: 5 Stars

As my title states this thing does take a little bit of time to start warming up the place. For an average room I would say 15-30 in a mildly chilly room to get comfortable. It gets hot right away, but it is radiant heat without a fan so the heat will travel up and begin slowly heating your room from the top down. Like everyone here I had that oil smell, and it took way longer (2x longer in my case) than the recommended time to burn off completely. ComforTemp (which is suppose to keep your room temperature optimal) for me was like overdrive on this thing, meaning this thing got extremely hot. I don't really have a use for it. Yes this thing does get hot to the touch, but what heating unit doesn't? Be careful with the back, because it does run hot.

CONS

-The Thermostat isn't a "real" thermostat. It is just a number 1-6. I always leave it on 6 and turn off the heater when it gets warm (never think it's a good idea to leave a heater on unattended even if it does have a timer/thermostat). So this is not a big deal to me, but maybe it is for some.

-The design of the front area makes this thing a little front heavy. It's relatively easy to knock this thing over if you're not careful. (note* this is with the wheels locked out. If they are locked it, it sort of helps to remedy the problem.)

PROS

-Quiet

-Uses a flip switch (yes this is important for me, because they are less prone to breakage. I had button switch units prior to this, and over an extended time the button switch always seems to fail.

-3 Voltage Settings

-Very good value for the price.

-Radiant Heat, so your room does not get that "dry" like other heaters.

I am overall satisfied with this product and would recommend it to a friend.

Customer Review: We Love This Thing!
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased our DeLonghi oil-filled heater in hopes we could use our gas furnace a little less. It does that and more -- we hardly use the furnace at all anymore, and are more comfortable than ever.

One huge advantage of the DeLonghi is that it uses natural convection and radiant heating to warm both the air and the contents of the room it's in. The furnace depends on blowing hot, dry air throughout the house, but the contents -- furniture, walls, etc. -- suck up a lot of that heat, so the furnace has to run quite a while at first. The DeLonghi heats the air that flows past it, which circulates itself, but kind of like holding your hand in the sunshine you can feel heat from the DeLonghi radiating throughout the room, heating up the walls and furniture directly.

Besides the more comfortable heat, the DeLonghi is much cheaper to run simply because it doesn't heat the whole house like the furnace does. We simply move the DeLonghi if we need to heat another area in the house, but usually it sits in the space between our 14x20 living room and our 12x24 dining room and kitchen area, which keeps virtually the whole main floor of our house comfortable.

We have experienced no odors whatsoever from our DeLonghi, and the click of the thermostat is so quiet my wife never noticed it until I mentioned it to her after reading some of the reviews here. Obviously, there may be difference from one unit to another; if we'd gotten a stinky or noisy heater we'd have exchanged it immediately. But I'd certainly recommend the DeLonghi to anyone who wants to reduce their heating costs while improving their comfort.

Customer Review: Perfect for our needs
Summary: 5 Stars

We love this radiator! Needed something to take the chill out of our bedroom at night (room is in the second floor of a bungalow) and this radiator is perfect. Comes fully assembled and ready to go, which is nice. Let it run on high in the basement for an hour or so, this is recommended to burn off some the "new" smell. Have not had any problems with odor since - though we never feel that we need to run it on high during our regular use. Turn it on med or low a couple hours before we're going to go upstairs and it really warms the room. Have left it on low when we went to bed a few times and it's gotten the room so warm that we had to turn it off in the middle of the night!

Have read some reviews saying that it doesn't do the job. I think potential buyers need to understand that this heater is not intended to warm a cold room in minutes, radiant heaters need time. After a few hours your room should be nice and toasty.

This heater does get warm to the touch - just as a warning to people with small children. DeLonghi does make a radiant heater that has more of a cover over the fins if you think that would be a problem for you.

This model is extremely quiet to operate - ours is completely silent! Overall we are VERY happy with our purchase, it does exactly what we needed without taking up a ton of space. Also, we got this model at our local Lowe's for $35...just a heads up:)

Customer Review: DeLonghi TRH0715
Summary: 5 Stars

As my wife and I are perfectionistic designers, sifting through the vast variety of the space heaters available on the market was some task. We finally decided on one which would provide a slow constant wamth versus the hot air bast-types such as heat fan elements, coil heaters, etc. resting on the idea of purchasing a radiated type. We read the reports on DeLonghi products in general which overall had been favorable. We made the decision to purchase the non-timer version of the TRH0715T, the TRH0715. Although slighlty less expensive, in hind sight I think we would've spent the extra money and got the timer version. We have still to recieve our electricity bill, but guess it much more economical than slappiing down $1,500 for heating oil. The two we purchased, heat our main floor nicely (1,300 sq. ft.), and is not too inconvient when moving heaters from room to room if/when necessary. The overall design is thoughtfully provided in the form of a stealth high-heat resistant plastic handle, 4 castor-roller type wheels, a cord wrap attachement, and aerodynamic heating fins. The heat is slow and constant and does not get "burning hot" like coil-element heaters (I still don't suggest touching it however). This was a good purchase and we feel very good about the price we paid. If you're looking for a non-avant garde designed heater which provides a good steady soft heat, this is the one!

Customer Review: Very happy with our choice
Summary: 5 Stars

We got two of them after reading the reviews and really like them alot. They do a great job of all over heating (not spot heating like the coil kinds) and never get too hot to the touch. We have both small children and pets and that was a concern of ours. We use them at night in the bedrooms and they do an awesome job of keeping the chill away. During the day if needed I unplug and roll it into the the living area for the day (I'm a stay at home mom with two little boys). So far I've not noticed any increase in the electricity bill but I can't say that we use it everyday though. So far I've not used our furnace yet and hope not too but we'll see. All in all I'm really very happy with them and don't really have any complaints.
I did turn them on high in the garage for a few hours to burn off the initial oil smell and never had an odor smell since. Also one of them does have a little tick sound but it doesn't bother anyone in our house.
