Tools and Hardware Reviews of DeLonghi HHP1500 Safeheat Mica-Panel HeaterCustomer Review: Mica power keeps you warm and saves you money Summary: 5 Stars
Added on 1/7/09:
I am still *pretty* happy with my heater, but I would deduct one star for the clicking sound when the heater turns itself on and off. Since it is trying to normalize the temperature in the room, it clicks a lot. If you're a sound sleeper, it won't bother you. Some nights I don't notice it, others, like last night, it bugs me.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out if it's as energy-efficient as I thought it was. Will check my next bill and report back...

Original review:
Very, very happy with my Delonghi heater.
Pros:
1) Keeps my medium sized (11 x 12) bedroom comfortably warm at night and maintains the room temperature very evenly.
2) I was surprised and impressed at how big it was for the price (2 x 26 x 20 inches), yet it's very thin (yes, it's just over 2" deep!), light, and easy to wheel around anywhere you want it.
3) Eerily silent (that's a good thing!).
4) My first energy bill indicates that it is very energy efficient (maybe an extra $10-15 a month, *not* including all of the the gas I save by turning down the thermostat in the rest of the house).
5) Has a safety cutoff - I would strongly advise this for any heater you buy.
Nitpicks and solutions:
1) A thermostat instead of two temperature dials would have been awesome, but at this price, I don't see how that would be possible. The dials work well once you figure out which settings work best for you.
2) You must run the heater somewhere outside of your house (garage, porch, backyard, etc.) for a few hours (I would say 6 hours should do it) to get rid of the factory smell. If you don't, ick. If you do, problem solved.
3) Occasionally it makes some quiet clicky sounds when powering down - not a real problem unless you are an extremely light sleeper (I'm a lightish one and when I'm asleep it doesn't wake me). If you warm the room up on the highest setting and then turn it down, the clicks seem not to happen.
4) It takes about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to heat a room completely, since there's no fan - again, I just put the heater on the highest setting and then turn it down when the room's warm. You could use an appliance timer if you wanted to preheat the room - I have this one: Intermatic TN111C Standard Lamp & Appliance Timer Appliance timers are both cheap (this one is $5) *and* they save you money on energy bills. They're a a modern miracle!
None of these flaws are even close to being deal breakers relative to the many merits of the heater. It's definitely worth your money (and then some!)
(DeLonghi, where's my kickback???)
