Tools and Hardware Reviews of DeLonghi HHP1500 Safeheat Mica-Panel HeaterCustomer Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
I received my heater and as instructed, plugged in in outside on the porch and set it to full for 2 hours to burn off the protective anti-corrosive coating. It did smell at first but the smell was gone after a couple hours, and I brought it inside. I have a very sensitive nose, and there was no smell. The heat is gentle and pleasant like the feeling of a warm sunbeam on a cool day. It is completely silent and reasonably good looking. The rollers were easy to install and it came with the mounting bracket and screws with anchors to mount on the wall, which we plan to do this weekend to save space. We're going to order 2 more for other rooms! The current heater is in our bedroom which is about 12' x 15', so we want one for the living room and office as well.
As someone else mentioned, an actual digital thermostat (instead of the dial which reads "1 - 6" would make this item ideal.
Update: We now have 3 of these heaters running, we have them set to "low power" (1) and around "3" on the temperature dial. We have our main gas furnace off and the heaters have been keeping our 500 square foot cottage very comfortable when the temps are around 34 F at night and 55 - 60 F during the day. My allergies are so much better!
Customer Review: Like a portable fireplace Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the DeLonghi HHP1500 for about a month & so far it has been great. It's in my office-- nice and quiet, which is what I was hoping for. A few pops and pings as it cycles on and off, but nothing like the noise that a fan operated device generates. I have it sitting about twelve inches away on the low setting and it feels like I'm sitting about 6 feet from a slow burning fire. Perfect.
According to a watt meter, the heater uses about 700 Watts on the low setting and 1400 watts on high. The back of the heater does get hot -- nearly as hot as the front (on low you can touch either side about 1-2 seconds before it's too hot to handle, on high it's more like 1/4 second)-- I'd have to think twice about mounting it directly on the wall. On the other hand, it's not so bad that I'm concerned about having the back of the heater a few inches away from a bookcase.
The only feature that I'd say it lacks would be a timer-- I suppose I could use a wall timer, but it's so much easier (& safer, I believe) if it's built in to begin with.
I'm hoping it holds up through a few winters-- if so it definitely earns a 5 star rating.
Customer Review: Even heat, controllable temperature Summary: 5 Stars
We got to use this in an old home we had to stay in overnight where the gas furnace was out, and the house hadn't been used for months. The temperature inside the house was about 40 degrees, and we got there about 9PM. We set the heater up in the bedroom and shut off the rest of the house, and within two hours, it had the air temperature pretty comfortable and kept it that way overnight. In addition, its radiative heat is about like standing in front of a fireplace at a distance -- it really feels good. It smelled a little for the first two hours (as it says it will), but the smell was not bad and did not make us cough or our eyes water. Since then, it has been perfect. The heater is light weight and easily portable.
In fact, it's been so good that we moved it into our bathroom at home (on the wheels), and it makes us toasty warm getting out of the shower on cool winter morning. The controls are easy to use and see. It's another fine consumer product from deLonghi.
If you had a sunroom or enclosed porch where you wintered plants, the "frostproof" setting would probably be great for keeping the plants from getting to cold.
Customer Review: great looking, heats large room very well, thin Summary: 5 Stars
This works very well and seems to heat better than my last heater which used air to circulate the heat. The heat circulates through the room fine via just radiant heat from the flat heating surface.
What I like best is how easy it is to move (handle on top back panel) from room to room in my 2 bdrm condo. Which means I'm now very efficient with just heating the room I'm in and not the whole house.
The heater probably paid itself off in 3 or 4 cold months versus using my central heater. I don't use my central heater much now... even on 30 degree days.
This will provide a comfortable environment for my largest room of about 12X15. On the coldest days of 20 degrees this can still heat the room to about 67 degrees.
I really like the two power setting... most of the time I use the lower power setting which operates at 750 watts versus the 1500 max watt setting. Another energy savings.
Lastly, this a nice looking unit that doesn't stand out like a soar thumb. The design was well thought out and fits in with my contemporary furniture.
Customer Review: back to order my 2nd unit Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this heater almost a year ago. I used it to heat just our 12x12 bedroom at night, and my 12x12 home office during the day through the coldest Boston months. We only used our central heating system during the morning, evening, and weekends. I tracked our bills, and we actually saved money on both the oil *and* electric bill. The only thing I could figure is that the oil burner takes a lot of electricity to run.
I like a very quiet room, so this heater has been perfect. I don't mind a couple minutes warm-up time. I've also used the unit in our large cold spacious basement. It can't heat that entire space, but I put the thing right next to my chair. I stay warm, and it takes the chill off the rest of the room.
Last year I easily toted the unit back and forth between the office and bedroom every day. This year I'm getting lazy and ordering a 2nd unit. Plus I won't have to get cold in the office if I work late when husband has already gone to bed. Good price, good function, good looking. I may buy a 3rd one next year for our basement guest room.
