I'm 47 and have been ironing my own clothes since I was a kid, but unlike a lot of folks, I like heavy starch on my clothes. I've gone through spells where I'd get sick of it and end up sending my clothes to the cleaners, but I was always let down. They would always at one time or another damage a garment, misplace an item or whatever. So, I'd end up doing it all again myself.
I've used all of the "best" "Rowenta's", etc out there. One thing I've always wanted in an iron was a very hot iron. The last Rowenta that I bought was over $100.00 and supposedly had 1800 watts. It worked ok and it worked ok for close to two years, but I was never really happy with it. It started leaking water just like all of the others and eventually just gave out.
I stumbled upon this iron on Amazon and read all of the wonderful reviews about it, but was still a little skeptical. "How could a 1500W iron do what everyone says about it?" One area that I had concerns was that there was not really any reviews about anyone using starch with it. This was a $140.00 iron and a huge contraption at that.
I decided to give it a try as I had no alternative that I could find that I might consider. Well let me tell you, I am GLAD I did!! This is THE hottest 1500W iron that I have ever used. It's THE hottest iron that I have ever used period! The design of these type irons really is a huge improvement over "self-contained" irons. If you like steam, you'll be thrilled to death with this iron. This thing puts out steam like an old locomotive! It's consistent too! The reservoir holds a lot of water.
This iron works great with starch if you like that like I do or steam like my wife likes. This iron appears to be well made also, not some junky item from China.
Of all of the cons that I've read about it such as no water gauge, these are so minor that I don't even notice them. I just check the water each time before I use it. There are no other negatives about it that I can really think of. The entire unit is a little heavy that's all, but the positive to the weight is that it stays in place while you're ironing.
I would not hesitate one bit to purchase this iron, it is fantastic in all respects to me and personally I think it's cheap for what you get.
